| Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver. |

Getting rid of the serrated edge.
I just recently bid on a CRKT Polkowski-Kasper knife that has a partially serrated edge (grrr...)
Is there any way to actually file the serrated edge down into a nice plain edge? If not, just how do I go about sharpening the little sucker?

I assume that CRKT does a real differential treat, so....if you grind/file off the serrations, you'll be down to non-edge-holding hardness on the blade. You could sharpen it, but it wouldn't last. The little Dog-Bone I linked above is great for working on serrations. |

Well, if you want to trade it for a straight edged one, let me know.

There are several shapening systems out there that accomidate serrations, but you can always send them in for sharpening if you don't like doing it yourself.
Don't try to remove them. |

Removing the serrated section won't work. You would be removing material from the cutting edge and would result in a mess, that wouldnt hold an edge that well. I prefer non-serrated, but they can be handy. When you need to sharpen, there are several good diamond files to sharpen those.

Risque007,
I prefer the spyderco ceramics kit for serrations. I've been using one of their sharpening systems for at least 15 years. I had to replace the course ceramics after they wore down [ the edge of the triangle wasn't defined any longer ] after somewhere over 6000 knives sharpened. I used to sit at the gun range clubhouse on Sundays and sharpen blades all morning for members for years. Brownie |

Bob was an innovator, no question sir. We lost a good one for designs and knowledge of edged weapons.

you'd be better off getting another knife, instead of ruining a perfectly good one.
