Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

I have a streamlight scorpion and the surefire e2d. Have had zero problems withe the scorpion. The e2d, however, I had to get the endcap replaced. It would NOT turn the flashlight on. Surefire replaced the endcap for me, but did not want me to send them the faulty endcap so they could diagnose the problem. My e2d is starting to display the behavior of losing the ability to turn the light on/off. And I only use it for my bedside light.

The way it stands now, I will not buy another surefire.

Surefire is my choice. You have many models to choose from.

Im assuming this person already has bought his edc light by now, but anyway I will chime in with my .02 cents.

I have several lights in my EDC rotation, any of which would be a good choice. My first two "tactical" lights I ever owned were Coast brand: a LED-Lenser v2 camo (about 40-50 lumens) and a LED-Lenser Focusing Tactical (about 55-60 lumens), both of which have proven to be bright, reliable and efficient (they both work on AAAs) . I also own an Inova X5 (for close up with its floody beam) and an XO (for longer distances), both of which use CR123s. My newest addition (and the best $25 I ever spent) is the Rayovac 3 watt led light from Wally-Mart (says 80 lumens on the packaging, but probably only gets about 60-65), with about an hour runtime on two AAs and an extremely bright beam out to 75-100'. I reccomend all five of them.

Surefire recently released the 6PL - an led version of the venerable classic. I found a good deal on one at candlepower forums (or at least what I think was a good deal). I am not sure if it will be come my edc or not - but will definitely be the one I reach for if I am worried.

HDS and Novatac are also potential options (more Novatac, HDS is currently a twisty arround $150 - due to ship in Dec). They are good options if you want size/features of a Fenix, but want something more tactical in nature. In a few months, the HDS might easily become my edc light.
