| Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver. |

Best is opinion. That said I voted Benchmade. Emmerson is a close 2nd.
SOG and Cold steel are both good for midgrade. I carry my benchmade 19 out of 20 times.

i'm really pleased with my gerber right now.
http://www.gerbergear.com/product.php?model=8464 the full tang has little "Serrations" along the exposed part of the handle. you could gut a cow with it and it still wouldn't slip. Some pretty hard thrusting into a 2x4 and it didn't budge even with sweaty palms.

In my opinion you didn't list any truely "quality" makers. It is pure opinion on what is "best" anyway. First of all, what is the knife for? For example, if you wanted a pure fighting knife, I might say a full tang Randall or DeLeon Sub Hilt... whereas a Jim Behring hidden tang scagel style knife might not be suited for that task although Jim Behering is the best living maker in my opinion (scagel style). So best isn't always the right answer because so many knives do so many things. If it's a tactical style knife (assuming because of the brands you did list) then my vote would go for two more that you didn't list and are difinately top quality and worth checking out. TOPS Tactical and FOX Knives in Italy.

What the heck????? A list of quality knives listing Gerber and CRKT and you dont even have the decency to put Emerson on their? In the words of Sal Glasser (owner of Spyderco) "There is no finner folding blade for tactical situations than an Emerson".
(I wont even comment on where SOG belongs, but thats another story).

Benchmade is my choice.
Cold Steel is also a very nice name to have. SOG and Spyderco are good as well. The others would trickle down the list.

I put "other", but mainly because it depends on what kind of knife. Tactical folder? Probably Emerson, but I also like ZT. Striders are very good, but not necessarily if you factor price in.
Some of the manufacturers listed are pretty good. There are some very nice Benchmades, & the others listed aren't bad. I wouldn't say Spydercos are THE best, but they (Like Emerson & ZT), should be on the list.
