| Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver. |

Emerson is one of the best available. I won't own Strider or SOG for personal reasons.

It's amazing how one persons favorite (Or one of his favorite) knife maker can be anothers bane. Such as Emerson folders. I guess it can happen, but I've never even heard of an Emerson closing when it's not supposed to. I have had, seen, & heard about folders that have closed on someone, so I understand the knock against liner locks in general. As someone wrote earlier, there's really no "best."

I got an Emerson designed Benchmade 975 (3-7/8" Tanto ATS-34) with G-10 scales when I was 14. 10 years later the liner lock (titanium) has never failed. Great knife. It has cut a lot of stuff.

A friend of mine showed me a GERBER AUTO <Emerson design> that he has. Black aluminum scales, combo blade. Pretty nice. I promised him I'd sharpen it for him some time. It needs it.

Other Brands
I used to carry a CRKT M16 for almost three years until I ran it into the ground. Best knife I think I have ever owned.
http://www.crkt.com/m16mil.html I now carry a Kershaw Onion assisted open knife. Even though this one seems a little lighter in design than the M16, I feel it does its very well. The frame is starting to get a little loose on it, after maybe two years in the pocket. Just need to find an allen wrench small enough to tighten it. http://www.kershaw-knives.net/ I think both of these blades are a great deal for their price, and are both constructed very well. Dave |

Emerson makes some great knives, but they are expensive. Whether it is worth the price is up to you, but I don't think you will be disappointed if you get one.

i'm kind of on the fence about emersons. on the one hand, the have a rock solid rep for not failing, edge holding, tip strength, and innovation. on the other, they're way out of many people's price range, and make most of their blades with a chiseled edge (which i personally hate). i have a personal preference for spydies, cold steel and kershaw, which are great quality knives for a fraction of the cost. spydies now have 4 models with the wave feature, cold steel has their own "version" of waved openers (thumplates), and kershaws revolutionized assissted opening tech.

Spyderco has FOUR waves now? Geez, I've fallen behind! What others besides the Delica and the Endura?
I don't see any others in their online catalog... Are you sure there are four waved models? |

The P'kal can be considered a waved knife. I don't know what the 4th one would be, though.
BTW, Emerson's coming out with a new, cheaper line. I have 2 of his knives & want to get a Commander. I can't say that I'm LIKE to pay his prices, but I'm willing to look around for a good deal on his knives & getting then. As to Emersons being chisel ground. I believe only his tanto bladed knives are chisel ground, & all their ones aren't (At least that's what I thought.).
