Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

Heck in just a short while you can ask Ernest Emerson all about his knives. He'll be at the Grapevine Knife Show this month, so don't know what part of Texas your in but if its near DFW then you just might want to swing by and visit with both him and Sal Glasser (Spyderco founder and owner) as their both scheduled to be at the show.

It the annual knife show that is one of the best in the nation. I never miss one. Its not hugh, but that allows more time to visit with the great folks from Spyderco, Emerson, Calmus ect.

Here is their website and take a look at the folks who'll be there.

http://www.spiritofsteel.com/

This is the current posting on the website discussing the knife makers who will be present.
These knifemakers have already reserved their tables!
Ken Onion, Steve Johnson, John Young, Ernie Emerson, Walter Brend,
Jerry Fisk, Reggie Barker, Jim Crowell, John Fitch, Les Robertson, Bob Neal,
Tom Clark (Blue Ridge Knives), Perry Miller, Jim Sargent, Spyderco Knives
and more! We had originally advertised Jim Sornberger and Stan Fujisaka but due to a scheduling
conflict they will not be at this year's show--but have reserved for 2008.

Aug. 30 update: We regret to announce that Daniel Winkler will be unable to attend this year's show.

I admit to favoring Emerson knives but also believe in finding the correct knife for the tasks you are purchasing the knife for. Make a list of what the knife needs to be capable of task it needs to perform and then get out to local stores selling them and compare along with as you are doing here, ask lots of questions.

I have a Benchmade cqc-7 from when Ernie was in cahoots with BM that I bought back in 94' or there abouts. What a tank, it has been used as a prybar, wire stripper, hammer, screwdriver, etc. Fantastic knife! Any Emerson knife will serve you very, very, well.
