Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

sharpener

I need help in finding a good knife sharpener. I don't do free hand well, so was looking for a good sharpening contraption or maybe a hand held device. Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

I use a spyderco sharpmaker, and have had good luck with it. It puts a good edge on used with it and is easy to use. Like you, I'm also not very good at free hand sharpening and the sharpmaker works well for me.

I will second the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It is a great system. I don't do very well free hand either, but with this sharpener, if you can hold the knife straight up and down, you can put a wicked edge on it!!
It come with a good instructional DVD also.

You'll not go wrong with either the Spyderco or the Lansky.
The Spyderco is faster. The Lansky is more precise. Both are affordable and durable.
The spyderco Triangle Sharpener has the added feature of sharpening serrated edges fairly well also.(I got mine 22 years ago in Golden, CO and it still works well)
