Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

i have a question about this as my friend and I are were talking about what we should carry everyday in order to be prepared for just about anything. We disagreed on one thing... he says one should carry as much ammo as physically possible on their person. He carrys FIVE extra hi cap mags for his g19. What do ya'll think about this?

A note.. not many of you are carrying lighters, i think its a simple addition that should be added to every persons EDC.

Quite a bit of discussion on this topic took place here.

One relevant fact, I think, is that we limit our preparedness as we balance it with other preferences. For instance, wouldn't we be safer if we wore crash helmets when we drive? Yes! Then why don't we?

The likelihood of crashing our car is much greater than the likelihood of needing eighty rounds of ammo, isn't it?

In truth, a lot of what we do along the lines of personal defense has to do with taste and enjoyment rather than with cold rational analysis. In other words, "I do it because it makes me feel good." And that's okay.

I suppose if he is happy, i should be too. We are great friends now, but i'll bet if we ever get into troulbe and he has to use all 80 extra rounds, we will be much closer friends.

You might consider adding a second (backup) ring of keys for the opposite-side pocket. That has proven very valuable to me in the past, and I expect I'll need it again one day.

I am not one for pocket-dump threads, but some of my major items of hardware are a second handgun, a Strider AR folder, A Tarani Masters Model Karambit folder, a SPARE set of the more important keys, a Surefire flashlight, and an Atwood Titanium whistle. I also split my ID and cards into at least two places, which is not the same thing as a "decoy wallet," though in certain circumstances, I will utilize the decoy wallet concept. I DO NOT ROTATE my EDC blades; familiarity may be boring, but it enhances smoothness of drawing and opening. Just as with guns, I keep my collecting and carrying separate. If I need a specialty blade for a given environment, which I often do, I will add that blade to my EDC ensemble, not rotate.
