| Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver. |

Need to know if pepper-spray is legal in D.C.
So I'm reasonably sure that a group of friends and I are going to D.C. over the holiday break. As I know D.C. has got some of the most draconian gun and knife laws in the nation, carrying either there would be pure suicide. But I can't see just going without nothing.
I've decided to arm myself with a good stout metal pen , a keychain sized unit of pepper spray, and a Surefire. My question is: can I carry the pepper-spray unit in D.C. I'll be hitting the Mall, the Smithsonian, and some other places. If you know, I need your help. Thanks. |

I seem to recall reading that pepper spray in DC is allowed if it's in a clearly labeled container. I may have read that on packing.org before that site disappeared. I don't know about specific locations like the Smithsonian. I suppose you'd be able to get a container of pepper spray through a metal detector, but I've never tried.
