Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

My New RAT Cutlery RC-3

Here's the RC-3 I received from my SWAT Publisher.

It's a limited edition SWAT 25th Anniversary blade (buy yours here).

It's heat-treated 1095 carbon steel with tough powder coating, and has micarta grips. The blade is 3 7/8", so it's carry-legal here in TN, where the blade length limit is 4". It comes with a nylon/MOLLE sheath, and the removable nylon sheath can screw onto a belt-clip backing that is included.

I believe everyone on staff got one, and mine is laser-engraved with my name on the other side of the blade.

It appears very well made and is not as expensive as similar blades. It is made by Jeff Randall, who is one of SWAT's regular authors (notably in the "Against All Odds" column).

I'll probably attach this knife to my day hiking gear; I've got a large Ka-Bar camp knife that I use on extended treks.

Here it is beside by trusty, well-worn MOD Mark II.

That's a good all around functional design, very similar to the old Bowen design which is among my all time favorites.

No, it isn't. RAT (Randall's Adventure Training) is made by Ontario. Randall also started his own company RC (Randall Cutlery), but the RAT line by Ontario is still made. Swamp Rat is with the "Busse" family & more expensive, I believe.

Personally, I think the RAT3 (In either 1095 or D2), is one of the best personal sized fixed blades around (Especially for the money). Unfortunately, my hand is too big for the handle. Their new RC3 fixes that, BTW.

Nice knife & it'll make a great hiking knife.

Thanks for the link Betty, I have just ordered my S.W.A.T. RAT 3. I have been meaning to buy one but I like this personalized one better.
