When we retire in just a few years, the wife and I are thinking of buying some land up near Burnsville or maybe near Boone. Put up a small comfy cabin (earth sheltered) and rent it when we're not there. Maybe something like this:

Born in Rocky Mt, raised in Fayetteville, now live in Elizabethtown. Love this state! From the coast to the mountains in just a few hours, NC has it all!

i know that many places in NC are beautiful, but there are also many places that are real -holes. i was raised just outside of fayetteville/ft. bragg and over the last 20 years its gone downhill at a screaming pace. crack dealers, crack whores, fastest growing gang violence/activity of anywhere im aware of, an unbelievably overwhelming welfare "you owe me a living" mentality.......i got fed up, took a major loss to unload my house, and moved far far away and its the smartest thing ive ever done.

after 2 years im leaving tomorrow to head back to NC on vacation to visit my mother/brother. im thankful that montana and NC share CWP reciprocity because i can think of few places where being armed is more important than fayetteville NC.

I think you would be amazed at how much Fayetteville has changed. It was the pits in certain parts of town back in the 70's but it is so different now. Any state has good areas and bad areas but NC is trying to clean up the spots that need it. Be truthful, doesn't Montana have areas that are high crime, also? But from what I've read and heard, it's a great state with beautiful scenery and good people. Try to visit downtown Fayetteville, especially the new U.S. Airborne Museum downtown and I think you will like the difference. Now, if only they could teach people in Fayetteville how to drive! That's probably asking too much!

Hey!! I was born in salisbury and lived in durham area, Banner Elk right across the street from Sugar Mtn, Leicester(near Asheville), and then to High Point. love it there and would still be there but went to school here in TN and then got married and.....you know the drill.

Exsoldier, I would Choose Burnsville over Boone. I like Boone but too much Ap State traffic for me.

Fuquay Varina. I've got to move to Cary or Holly Springs so I can live in a town with a normal name.
