Marine Corps Division Matches, Marine Corps Matches, and one civilian CMP match in Hawaii (Hawaii State Pistol Championships).

In the Division matches we have to shoot issued weapons, so it's the Beretta and the M-16.

In the Marine Corps Matches I fired only pistol, which was the .45, hardball.

In the Hawaii CMP match, I fired the same as the MC Matches, .45 hardball - except this time it was my own, not issued for the match.

Out here!

I know this is an old thread and apologize for bringing it back alive. Sgt. I just wanted to say that smallbore really isn't that cheap. If you are getting started you are looking at anywhere between 3k and 5k in equipment. That .22 practice ammo will cost about $3-5 for 50 rounds and your match ammo can run about $10-15 for 50. I understand this is cheaper then .45 ammo, but I have been a smallbore shooter for years and my son is 11 and has been doing it now for 2 years. It can get expensive very quickly. If you want something fun and a lot cheaper, look at position air rifle.

Your startup costs will be a little cheaper, but pellets are nothing. No travel time or range fees because you can do it in your house. It is fun and a great way to get kids into shooting sports.

I do LOTS of cowboy action shooting, including Western 3 Gun, sort of like Tactical 3 gun, but using guns of the old west while wearing western clothing, LOTS of FUN !! I even help run the annual FL State SASS Championship match. each year. ( 2007 Last Stand was on Shooting USA ) Been to a few GLOCK matches, Hope to start doing some IDPA soon. Did lots of trap/skeet & sport clays until my favorite range, TM Ranch shut down.

I shoot stock service pistol in IDPA. I started shooting matches this year. I qualified marksman in only my second match, while isn't great, isn't horrible either.

Thx for the tip. My daughter is only 6 and just learned to cheek the stock and get a proper sight picture recently with her Daisy. We can shoot in our backyard here and she asked me to shoot today, but I got busy doing something else and forgot. Shame on me, I'm a terrible father. I'll make it up to her tomorrow, I promise.

Anyway, she shows intrest, so when she gets better I'm gonna get into some comp with her. She has already confiscated all of my sporting clays trophies, and keeps them in her room.

The trade off is that I get to keep her tiny-mite cheerleading trophie in my room.

Sgt,

Look around and see if you can find a Jr. club in your area. We are out of Highland, IL and are supported by CMP and the NRA. Our kids don't have to pay for anything.

The parents have to join the club $125 per year and they have to be NRA members. After that just sign the kids up 10-18 years old and we provide all the equipment and Anshutz firearms for their use.

The CMP & NRA gives us grants and discounted rates. The kids have a blast, learn basic rifle skills and then move into advance competitions. It is fun and that is how I started out in my comp shooting.

I now am one of the lead coaches and am teaching my 11 year old.
