Cool

I grew up in HATFIELD, PA... Home of the smiling porker (Hatfield Quality Meat's Slogan)

I now live in Up State NY, but I used to live in, and still work in Montgomery and Bucks Counties...

Well...

I now reside in Morgantown, I grew up in the South hills of Pittsburgh (near South Park) and my family used to spend a lot of time near Bedford, PA.

We have property in Manns Choice, PA. (between Manns Choice and Shawnee SP)

Hello
I'm jeff from Newville in Cumberland Co and I have a PA question.

What are the PA laws on justified use of a firearm and deadly force in our homes,on our property and during concealed carry ?

Don't need the citations ,but rather the translation ie what can and can't we legally do?

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff -

We are still obliged to retreat as a first priority - tho in home I doubt this is too much problem to circumvent if under severe threat. If we eventually get Castle Doctrine and ''Stand your ground'' - this will be a lesser problem overall.

I guess if a city ordinance is in effect re discharge of a firearm - not sure to be honest where that leaves folks.

When carrying, then for sure obligation to retreat is in force still - so you'd have to be trapped and under lethal threat to be in good shape - unless maybe rendering aid to a cop in trouble. One major factor for us is to be alert - avoidance of trouble - same really for anyone anywhere when carrying.

A priority I try to keep in mind is - should we be involved then we have to be able to state, we were in fear of our life. I hope to never explore all this with any actual event!!

To check the actual legal side tho - it might be worth some digging as I have no definitive text to quote. There is info on NRA site and also I think http://handgunlaw.us/

QK shooter is very well up on PA stuff - so a PM to him might add more - I am only giving you what I use as my rules.
