I'm a member at Black Creek, I understand they are full right now, but check at the first of the year. Guests of members are welcome. Otherwise there is Va. Conservation Park on Charles City Rd.
The indoor range in Midlothian insists you purchase their ammo, and I heard not very nice things about them. I have never been there, there is a closer indoor range to me, I visit every now and again.

Thanks.
Your Florida CCW is good for VA, so you can just keep it, or get both. Getting both gives you coverage in about 32 states.

Checking in from Newport News. I usually shoot at a private club.

Hopewell here, near the Prince George line. Good to see some other local people here. I grew up around plenty of rifles, but my wife is pretty much anti-gun. I respect her opinions, but it's been six years since I've handled any firearms.. I think it's time to have some protection again, and I'm turning in my CHP application tomorrow after work.

Honestly, I'm not very familiar with handguns, other than the basics of how they work, how to handle, ect.. That's not the same as hands on training time though, so I'll be doing some practice with whatever gun I finally decide on.

I'm looking at purchasing a High Point .45 ACP, I found one that's just been broken in, is in good condition, and is a good price for something to learn with. ($140)

I would really like to find something left handed, as I'm a south paw, but everything I've seen is way out of my price range, so I think I'll just train myself to automatically go to a straight forward stance when shooting to keep shells off of me.

I could go wheel gun, which in all reality would be better for me to learn with when it comes to being a beginner with handguns.. but I'm a hefty guy and I don't think a wheel would be very comfortable to CC every day, which is my goal.

So, for now I'm gonna find a semi auto to learn with, and work with it until I'm comfortable handling it.

Should I be looking at another caliber as a first handgun? I'm limited as far as price goes, which is frustrating, but I do want to get something I can learn with and possibly CC until I can drop the coin on a better model. I'm probably not going to be going over $200 right now. Everyone local chime in if you know of a better option to purchase.

And thanks to everyone on this forum! I've been learning a LOT of great stuff here since I found the site!

Welcome home DS.
Calibre, frame, type, etc. can be resolved by renting a weapon at your local range, if they have the facility for such. Some do. You can find the right one for you without buying and know what you're comfortable with.

When you do select and practice you should spend a little time shooting for accuracy with your weak hand. I'm a southpaw and do that too. I'm sometimes surprised by how well I can shoot weak side. Good luck, be safe.

Chester Va by way of Arlington, Falls Church and Warrenton. Fort Lee is suppose to have a gun club that I heard was open to the public to join. There is an Izack Walton League range in New Kent but you have to be a member. To the Thomas Dale crowd my son played for LC Bird

Been there several times. Talking about D&P behind Sourthern Gun World on midlothian turnpike (by the old cloverleaf mall and chippenham. ) They are incredibly pricey. I usually goto straight shooters on the BLVD in colonial heights going towards the petersburg bridge, they changed hands, and I haven't had the chance to go since its new ownership?
