Looking for Acreage to shoot on in Texas
Okay, I'm starting to think about retirement and the 1 thing I really want is some acreage in the country to build/buy on that I can also setup my own personal shooting range on. The Texas Vietnam Vets, programs allows us to buy acreage with low interest rates.
My question is this: In the rural areas what are the shooting restrictions? Is it based on the amount of land, where it is, zoning rules, etc., what can I expect?

I would think that the first q would be just where in TX you want to settle down . I know that in the panhandle there is not a lot of restrictions for a landowner , but i would suspect that some get implimented as you go south into more populated country .

Most of the time it will depend on whether you are in city limits or not.

miles of acres in texas.. figure out where you want to buy land and contact that county sherif and or county commisioners. they will have the rules.. i think if you buy 10 acres or more you will have many exemptions to local eco/rules as that is considered to be ranch land.good luck

I live 30 miles north of Texas in Oklahoma and have 420 acres. I pretty much can do anything I want. Permits=========I don't need any stinking permits! ;-) It always amazed me when we would go to Minnesota to see my inlaws. They had rules for everything even if you didn't live in town. Here in Oklahoma I've got a range on my front door step. I've had friends with machine guns and 50 calibers ask to shoot on my place. No problems there either. The great part is I purchased it 10 years ago for $165 an acre. Try to do that anywhere else.

We got lucky when we moved here in 1991. Prices had not gone up on hunting type properties yet. Now the rich doctors and business are paying top dollar for hunting land.
