Live in Rhode Island or Massachusetts?

I am considering a very good job in Massachusetts, down on the coast between Rhode Island and Cape Cod. If I take it, I'd have to live either in Massachusetts, or in Rhode Island. I currently live in Connecticut, which could be a lot better regarding self-defense, but either of these two states would be a step down from here from what I've read.

I wonder what members living in either of these states think, which state is it more straight forward to obtain a carry permit, any considerations for getting a non resident permit from the other state, etc. Any insight would be very helpful as I decide just how much of a step down it would be (in terms of my rights) to take this job.

(For anyone who thinks the best choice is secret option number 3, move to the edge of CT and commute, I have thought of this and still am considering it, but only as an absolute last resort.)

So what do you think, RI resident and MA non-resident, or vice versa?

Thanks.

MA NR LTC is very doable and many times easier to obtain (unrestricted) than a Resident LTC. State issues NR LTCs and pretty much keeps to MGL for the requirements. Each city/town's police chief gets to make up their own "add on requirements" in MA for Resident LTCs, so it is a real crap-shoot.

I understand that RI regularly denies for "insufficient reason" their permits and even on renewals . . . both Resident and NR. Thus, I've never bothered to apply there.

I would NOT recommend living in MA under any circumstances! If you do decide to move there anyway, contact (and join) GOAL for advice on what towns are likely to give you less hassle. 508-393-5333, Gun Owners Action League
