I'm an elder and trustee, serve as an armorbearer to my pastor, and have carried during every service for about a year now. Usually IWB/tuckable or ankle holster if warm weather. Our church, too, does a lot of hugging, but so far not an issue and no comments. My having a CHL is no secret, but I take care and don't make a big deal about it. I sometimes feel a little exposed when I go down for prayer, since folks come down and lay on hands, but my small group leader (who has a CHL) usually gets there and covers me (physically and spiritually).

I teach SS and sing in the choir. I carry at almost every service or meeting I attend.
Generally, I carry a PM9 in my pocket, but have carried a G22 and P220 in both IWB and OWB holsters. |

Carrying in Church
I recently recieved my CCW permit here in AL. I carry my Kel-Tec P3AT with me in my front right pocket everywhere. I use an Active Pro Gear pocket holster, works great in front or back. I play in the band and teach Sunday school, no one other than my wife knows I carry there and it'll stay that way. I suspect that there are others but I won't pursue that, it is thier right and choice.![]()

In Arizona we have no statute requiring us not to carry at church or church functions and no requirement to disclose or attain permission.
When I was regularly attending a church I ran the sound board and was armed. The pastor and one other shooting partner were the only ones that knew. The pastor only knew because we shot regularly together. No one ever noticed (even the huggers) We no longer serve at a church during services, now we do a food ministry on Saturdays. My wife and I always carry then. We have homeless and those in recovery (read felons). We never know what will happen, or who will show up. I do a little mini sermon and many times will use firearms in the sermon. The host church has no problem with me carrying and to the best of my knowledge no one has ever picked up on my carry status. I also regularly offer a shooting outing to those who come. I do ask if the have a felony before I take them. Holdcard (if you want to know more, follow the link in the signature) |

Obviously not a pastor here, but I do teach a class for 4year olds every Wed night, with my xd9 secured safely on my hip. I don't have a way to carry on my person with a dress on, so my husband usually has the 9 with him on Sundays. Once he gets his own, I'll have to carry in my purse on Sundays. Not my choice of carry, but I'd rather have it than not! We also work in an addictions ministry on Fri nights. Whomever gets to the gun first gets to wear it.
Our church is large, and there are many who carry there. The pastors are aware of who carries, but it's generally kept quiet. It's comforting to see that the people who carry, are always watching the doors, etc. I don't think any of the pastors carry. No one knows we carry, and it's cool that no one would even suspect it either. ![]() I'm thankful to live in PA where I can carry in church. I do have concerns about church shootings as people become more and more hostile.

Minnesota doesn't have any prohibition on carrying in church, and in our small-town Church, folks seem fine with "don't ask, don't tell." I know there are several who carry at least occasionally, and when asked, I've encouraged it -- discreetly.
We're called to protect those who are weak from those who are evil, if the evil confronts us. For that, we need to be prepared. At the same time, "concealed" is key. Folks are there to worship the Lord -- not to admire (or worry about) weaponry. ![]() |
