Thanks for your carefully thought out and well reasoned discussion. I especially appreciate your discussion of the morally bankrupt, logically unsupportable, and intellectually lazy idea of pacifism.
Have a great Easter. HE IS RISEN!

I'm an ordained Elder, and have been in a wide variety of teaching and ministering positions over the years. Officially my church doen't have a stance on firearms in the building(that I know of), but the state of Texas says there's no prohibiton unless given notice not to by the church leadership. Since no one knows I carry, no has told me not to. I, like so many here, feel it's part of my obligations to protect the innocent. So I do what I can.

This is an awsome thread! Believe it or not I read every post and truly enjoyed it.
I Thank God for fellow like minded Christians (and others). I do think that is the responsibility of those of us who are able to protect and defend those that are in our care. Events like Virginia Tech make me realize how I would feel if I was in a similar situation and had failed to be prepared. God Bless! |

Another pastor
Add me to the list-a United Methodist pastor in FL.
When I have a few moments I will actually add up the no. of pastors who have responded (sorry, can't relax with this forum, watch Lord of the Rings AND add-I am a liberal arts major after all). I also have to admit I did not think there were this many pastors out there who would be involved in this forum. And, in many parts of the UM Church you could say ugly things about Jesus' mama before you could admit to believing it's okay to even own a handgun! Mike |

I have been a music leader in several churches over the past 10 years. I don't know if that counts. My dad was a paster.

Advance The Kindom
WoW,
So many replies. I'd like to ad (even not a pastor) I am part of a ministry that protects our pastor. As Christians, we "KNOW" we have a destiny to fulfill, for ourselves and for others that are depending on us as we walk the earth. Myself, i am dedicated to becoming wealthy to support my family and support my church and my spiritual sister who is a missionary in Africa. I don't imagine i could do any of that or Advance the Kingdom of God as effectively if i were hurt, or if my wife or pastor were hurt or Killed. Grant it life would go on, but I KNOW i'm too valuable in the Kingdom of God to allow someone to be used by the enemy to take me out of this God-given life here on earth. I would hate tell myself, if i could have only done this, or that to have prevented this horrible situation. However, we all know those situations are few and far between for most of us, but the Word of God does say "..be ready in and out of season" ..."(II Tim. 4:2).."Be sober, Be Vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" (I pet. 5:8). Lets face it, if you are Advancing the Kingdom of God, the enemy wants you out of the battle, one way or another, not just in a confrontation. Angel |
