I spent five years in the Army and the last thirteen in the Coast Guard. Soon to retire.

Allright, You're the only other Corpsman I've seen on here.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, many, many pounds ago, I was in the Marine Corps.

While I'm glad I did it, I wouldn't want to do it again. Unlike most on here, I didn't enjoy it very much and don't remember it with (much...maybe a little) fondness.

I simply cannot stand to be told what to do. As my CO once very aptly put it, "You are a good fighter, but you are a poor soldier".

I know the feeling...I only did my 5 years active, tried the Reserve for 6 months and didn't like it, my eight year commitment is up tomorow. Doesn't seem like all that long ago I was on the yellow foot prints at "The Island" getting yelled. A friend once said "It was the best years of our lives, that I would never want to repeat."

Funny how a bad chain of command can kill your motovation. I still love the Corps and what it did for me, without it I'd probally be dead or in jail. I still talk to my Corps buddies every now and then and we all yuck it up about so and so and that one time in Singapore....But I'm much happier being out than in. I wish the reserves had gone a little better, but the Marine Corps is a Lifestyle that can't be lived only 1 weekend a month.

To me it doesn't matter what branch, or how long, or even what war...what matters is that we served.
