Hi neighbor! I'm at Exit 20 on the Thruway in Saugerties, in the heart of the Catskills.

In Ulster County it goes this way, and I understand it's similar in almost all other NY counties:

1) You need to start at your county's sheriff's office. They will give you the applications and paperwork you need.

2) You will then need to have 4 noterized letters of recommendation.

3) You will need to get fingerprinted and FBI checked. There is a fee for this of usually $99, sometimes more.

4) Your completed application will go before the county judge, who will (at his or her whim), issue you a full carry permit, or restricted permit. You may need to go in front of the judge to explain reasons for the CCW.

Recommendation: Enter all possible uses on your paperwork... hunting, target, competition, etc. I think you will be more likely to get the unrestricted permit.

Lastly, be prepared to wait about 4 months for this all to happen. Have heart, be patient, and good luck!
