New from VA
New to the forums, and new to pistols/carrying in general.
Quick intro I suppose. When I was younger(10-14) I used to shoot regularly with my dad, as I grew up I got less interested. Now I am definitely interested again, for target shooting and perhaps in the future competition matches(if I get good enough). I was originally going to buy a gun basically for target shooting, but after reevaluating alot of my life experiences and circumstances recently I have decided I wish to take Concealed Carry classes and sign up for my permit. I guess what changed me is the fact that next time something happens that endangers my life I would much rather have some form of defense for myself and others than simply hoping the bad guy decides to let me go. I've been held at gunpoint twice(both under the age of 20). I am now 26, and just recently a 7-11 near my house(walking distance, Ive walked there before) got robbed at knife-point. I pictured myself in that situation, and I decided I didn't like the unarmed version of myself being stuck in that scenario(like I have been before). I'd love for anyone to link me to some previous posts, or a good place to start for preparing myself for carrying a pistol. I have read about carrying in your house waiting for your permit to come. I guess one of my concerns is that I am a very slender guy. I weigh about 145 and I'm close to 6ft tall. Being skinny I was afraid a gun would print alot more... though I'm not sure. In situations where I was say... leaning, or sitting down or anything really. I have pretty much settled on buying a Springfield EMP, so perhaps that will give you an idea of what I'm going to carry. Would also prefer IWB type of a holster. Either way this is a great set of forums, and the people seem to be incredibly helpful and filled with useful information. Thanks for a great community everyone :) |

Welcome Aboard from SE Georgia!
This is a wonderful site for exploring and getting advice/opinions of getting yourself set up to help you make the decisions you need to. I'd first recommend you look into what you NEED, then what you WANT, (WRT firearms, method of carry, holsters, etc.)and start working around from there. Look up and LEARN ALL of Virginia's firearm and carry laws. Find a handgun carry and safty class and sign up. Look around and get opinions from those who have been to that class (if possiable). Quality training is invaluable! And when the questions come, drop by here and utilize the search function to see if you question has previously asked and answered..........and/or post it and enjoy the company! Again, Welcome Aboard! Stay Safe! |

Welcome
and you will find that being slender is not much different than anyone else carrying concealed. Its a matter of finding what works for you. Deciding on IWB or OWB will be your challenge. Once you have done this its a matter of clothing, holsters and belt options and the size of weapon you want to carry.
