Cool Been around the US, now in TX.

Hello everyone.

A little about myself:
I am a CCW permit holder, and probably will be for the rest of my life. The ability (and from what I perceive, is the right) to carry concealed is something I hold near and dear to my heart. I hope never to have to use my weapon to harm another human being, but I am prepared to put anybody down in the name of the protection of my family and myself; as well as the innocent.

I carry a Glock 23 in the winter because the spare mags are easier to conceal in cold weather apparel. I carry a Kahr MK40 in the summer. I like how I can fit it in the pocket and not even feel like it's there. I know some of you think it's heavy, but my left side balances it out with the spare mags and the pack-rat wallet.

I always carry two spare mags for the firearm I am carrying. 'Cause you never know when you will need them. As my supervisor used to say, "it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it."

If you didn't know already, I am a HUGE fan of the .40 S&W round. I believe it is the best balance of power, recoil, and magazine capacity of any round out there. At one point, I really liked the 9mm round, but I read that they deflect in the body off of bone too easily. I like the .45 ACP, but I feel limited by the number of rounds I can carry compared to the size of my weapon.

I have done about 3 years of online research about handgun round effectiveneess and feel that there is no one way to judge a cartridge. I feel that it should be judged on three levels. How well it penetrates to the vital organs, one shot stop percentage, and the inablity to deflect off it's current trajectory when it strikes bone.

I have owned about 28 firearms in my life. That's a lot when you consider the fact I'm only 26. I know what I like. I know what works for me. If it's popular, I've probably owned it. A few that I can remember:

Springfield Champion .45acp
FN Hi-Power .40s&w
Desert Eagle .50ae
S&W 500 .500s&w mag
Beretta Tomcat .32acp
Springfield XD45 .45acp
*Glock 23 .40s&w - My new favorite

*S&W 686+ .357 mag

*Ruger 10-22c .22lr
FN PS90 5.7x28mm
*Marlin 336SS .30-30win

Springfield EMP 9mm
Sig Mosquito .22lr
Beretta 92 Steel 1 9mm
*Kahr MK40 .40s&w

*=currently own

Well, as you can see, I've been around the gun world. I am very happy to have joined a forum that is as adamant about myself with concealed carry. I hope to learn more on everyone's insight and maybe add a little insight to yours. If you have any questions of me, please do not hesitate to ask. I love talking guns.
