New and waiting for my Florida CCW...
Hi Guys,
First off, THANK YOU to all the existing members of this board for the wealth of information and the good-natured atmosphere here on DefensiveCarry.com. You should be proud of the community you have built here (reminds me a bit of the other board I frequent, XDTalk). I hope in time that I'll have something useful to contribute too. Anyways, I'm a fairly new gun owner having bought a Springfield XD40 Service in December 07. Due to a LOT of administrative errors by the State, my Florida CCW has been pending approval since February... yeah, 6 months, but I recently learned over the phone that I have been approved! Yes! So, I have had quite a learning curve with CCW holsters and belts and now I'm not really sure I want to carry a gun as large as the 4" Service. To put my toe in the water I've ordered a cheapo #5 Uncle Mike's IWB holster and a Galco gun belt. I figure that will let me test the concept of concealed carrying the gun and if it works for me will go for either an M-Tac or a K&D Dakota - otherwise I may be in the market for a smaller carry gun - the wife will just LOVE that! Welcome to the forum from Virginia. As far as a 4" barrel on a carry gun goes, it shouldn't be any problem for concealing. Both my primary and secondary carry guns have 4" barrels, and alot of guys carry 5" 1911's with no problem. The right rig makes a world of difference.
