Hello from NW Georgia

Hi all, after lurking awhile I figured I'd register and introduce myself.

The name's David, I live in NW Georgia near Dalton (Carpet Capital of the World). I've worked in the IS department at Shaw Industries for 14.5 years now. I'm not a native, but a transplant -- I went to college in Mobile, AL (Univ of South Alabama) and then joined the Army. Married my wife & two stepkids while stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX (we'll be married 20 years in March), then went to Germany for 3 years with 3/2ACR and am a veteran of Gulf War I. Youngest daughter, born in Germany, just turned 18 and is about to leave the nest. We have 5 grandkids, including twins, from the two oldest. We returned to Mobile after leaving the Army in '92 but the company I was with moved us up here the next year.

I'm an NRA and American Legion member, and have been a CCW holder for 10 years. The wife got hers 10 years ago as well, but never got into carrying and let hers lapse 5 years later. Now she's expressed renewed interest in both shooting and carrying, so we'll be stopping by the courthouse next week to get her CCW again. She doesn't know it yet, but I bought her a Kahr CW9 last week to welcome her back to shooting and carrying. :)

Having been a 1911 bigot all my life, for the last 10 years I've carried a stainless Colt Combat Commander, but am saving up for a Kimber Pro CDP II to lighten the load. I'm a big guy but the heavy steel CCC is becoming a drag, causing me to leave it behind pretty often, so I need to address that.

Aside from the family and shooting, my hobbies range from pool & poker to computers and gaming. I grew up outdoors hunting and fishing but have gotten away from that since being married. Hope to take up fishing again and buy a bass boat, but probably won't get back into hunting. I still love to shoot recreationally and tactically though, and am thinking of joining a new semi-local gun club with a private range and weekly matches.

Well, that's enough about me. I'll hang out and hopefully participate as I have time, seeing as how this is about the 10th forum I belong to, including one very large one that I help run myself.
