I'll would go concealed over open carry anytime. We I was in plain clothes most thought I left my weapon in the car and little did they know I had a Model 60 sub in my boot and a Model 57 4" IWB or OWB if I had a jacket on.

It reminds me of some anti-war friends I have. They are comfortable with their views but find fringe groups like Code Pink to be offensive and hurt their cause. Similarly, open carry demonstrations, confrontations with law enforcement and the constant drumbeat of 'educating the public and LEOs' draws nothing but negative publicity.

This type of activity does nothing to further our cause or promote Second Amendment rights.
I guess we will just have to disagree.

I have seen the opposite here in Virginia. No demonstrations or planned confrontations, just people legally carrying and letting others see responsible law abiding gun carriers.

I think that the antigunners are going to think we are a bunch of yahoos no matter what we do.

I have found that the people who are just not familiar with guns seem to have a pretty open mind.

As I said before though, I usually conceal when I can.

Stay safe!

It's legal for me to carry openly. I don't as a rule.

Reminds me of a story I was at at this place located next to this hip hop bar and shooting started outside. This big guy hits the ground in a running squat drawing his piece to check it out. I drop down behind him my hand on the small of his back following him. He cracks the door to peep out. A car is peeling off and the shooting stops. The guy turns sees my piece and thanks me for having his back. I tell him your back my (edit) I was checking to be sure those idiots where not shooting my bike up, your big rear makes good cover. Now get out of my way so I check the bike out. We got to be friends after that

I see both sides here. Yes you can draw faster with OC, but lose the element of surprise. CC is the other way around. To each his own I guess

Agreed. People are more curious about OC I've noticed then about it. If and when I OC, which is on occasion, I will get questions. I'll tell them its legal and then give them a PAFOA OC flyer.

As far as I know there have not been any Open Carry demonstrations marching down the street waving their guns around or strutting down the street guns strapped to their hip. The news articles I have read about the OC picnics have all been positive. Until people get used to seeing guns on peoples hips again there will be LEO encounters. Rarely do I hear of a gun carrier acting poorly. These encounters often lead to department policy being written for LEO to follow. Remember open carry is not about gaining favor some new mode of carry or establishing a new tradition. As I have said before it is about taking back ground we have lost. There was a time not so long ago when open carry was not frowned upon any more than we frown upon giggling pubescent girls and testosterone driven males operating two ton weapons of mass destruction because open carry was just as common as teenage drivers are today. It was a given that most people open carrying were average normal law abiding citizens because they were. Just as they are today. In time that will be the case again but only if people open carry regularly.
As far as the cracks folks make about the old west I agree with them. I'd love to see us be like the old west when everyone has guns and there was far fewer per capita assaults, fewer per capita assaults with deadly weapons, fewer per capita murders, fewer per capita robberies, fewer per capita rapes? A time of less crime. A time when people were polite and respectful of each other. How is that a bad thing?

My Glock 23 is concealed from just behind the trigger guard to the tip of the barrel by the Blackhawk CQC thumbbreak pancake holster openly displayed on my right hip. If the sight of my weapon prevents a confrontation, this is to my tactical advantage. If I am attacked from ambush without an opportunity for the BG to see my weapon, as stated in a previous post, then neither the 'surprise' of CC or the deterrent of OC is an advantage. I can deal with the threat more quickly from OC.

I would hate to have to shoot someone who attacked thinking me an easy mark when just the knowledge I am armed could save their life by encouraging them to move on down the line.
