Discretely.
I think there are three possibilities: Open carry, Concealed carry, and Discrete carry.
Open carry doesn't necessarily have to be in a John Wayne western rig, or a "SWAT" Tactical thigh rig - though that is also "Open Carry." It just means that you don't have to jump through hoops and stuff your gun inside your clothes, all the while paranoid that someone might "make" you. Similar to the plain-clothes LEO's that don't brandish, but don't worry about "flashing," either. I would often "open carry" given the choice, but in the sense of an OWB and an un-tucked shirt to be much more comfortable in this climate - not the flashy quick-draw rig that so many seem to envision.
Admittedly, there will be those that will flaunt their "Manhood" (sorry, ladies) like that, but they don't worry me either. I figure that if TSHTF I'd be willing to let them get all the attention (since that's what they think they want, after all ), while I discretely remove my family and self from the scene.

Stay safe,

Chuck Brick.

One of the prime reasons I advocate concealed carry is as a crime deterrent, not just for crime around me, but crime in my area. If I put up with the "inconvenience" of carrying a handgun then other good guys(or gals) will as well. If a measurable percentage of the population in an area are carrying, criminals will start to get scared and move to another area, lowering crime in my area. I can have a noticeable effect on the violent crime rate in my area without ever having to draw my firearm, simply by carrying it concealed on a daily basis. Open carry can only be a deterrent when they see it happening, concealed carry can be a deterrent even when it's not there.

Think about it, given a choice between 2 cars, are you going to try to car-jack the one with an NRA sticker on it?
(no I wouldn't try to jack the one with the NRA sticker on it. However if I was a criminal that's the one I would pick to break into one night!)

I would open carry in at least a level II retention holster.

Up here you can get a open carry permit, Normally big honking revolvers!!) sadly only for the remote bush and the Grizzlies are all thumbs at sneaking behind you and stealing your gun.

I live in Colorado where OC is legal and the only people I have only scene OCing is in gun shops. I full support the right of those who chose to but OC is not for me. I fear two things: 1) someone making the "man with a gun call" and 2)someone trying to grab my gun.

I will always carry concealed.
I believe a person carrying open would be the badguy's first target.
How would you carry?
I don't worry about "Tactics," I'm not currently in the Military.

And, so far, to date, there are no known instances of an OCer being targeted by bad guys. And there's more than a little anecdotal evidence that OCing probably helped BGs decide to go elsewhere.

(Naturally, this does not include Peace Officers in this, as they are typically targets for their job, and usually not because they OC, when in uniform.)

As to how I OC, usually in with my pistol in a holster, on my right side, currently using a Galco pancake style holster with a thumb snap.

When I have the money, I would like to get a Western style holster that would keep it below my coat in the Winter time, so it can always been seen.

Open carry is legal here. I have always open carried, owb. In the odd case where I must wear a longer jacket in the cold it may be covered, but I don't ever sweat it either way.

I would not open carry by choice.

But lets say that to carry open carry were the only mode recognized by law such as is the case with lawful unlicensed carry in VA and carry without regard to licensing status into establishments that serve alcohol.
Then to that end I would carry in one of three modes; Cavalry Carry, Appendix Carry, and Kidney/Small of The Back Carry.

Cavalry and Appendix are very comfortable for all purpose wear though most importantly provide an extremely quick purposeful draw.
While with SoB carry that would work well toward lower profile openly concealed carry as folks who see me approach would not think that I am armed. And for those I do not want to know that I am armed my only hindrance would be purposefully keeping my back from facing them

Additionally under such circumstance my firearm itself would be required to be black or in a blackened finish.
No silver colored arms and no grips made of wood or some other colored material.
Black, all matte black with black sights and a mag well blackened as well as the magazines itself too must be black which I also would open carry in reserve. Even the face of the hammer would have to be blackened as I always carry in Condition 1 and run a 1911.

Discretion is a priority, for me.

Wow. All that? Man, I'm glad I OC and live where I can then. I'm not big on being tactical. Guess it's just easier when you don't give it much thought. If you must, you must. If you want, then you can. I enjoy my freedom to choose. A lot of us, myself included, have and are now, standing up for that freedom and others. That's why I'm confident in excercising that freedom.

A free man has nothing to fear

Here's my OC Rig

Purchased this from Kirkpatrick's of Laredo, TX. Hand made and hand tooled.

I had them make a custom modification to the holster to cover the trigger guard of a 1911.
