I will always carry concealed.
I believe a person carrying open would be the badguy's first target.
How would you carry?
I can (and have) walk through the Wal-Mart at Telegraph and Ecorse, while open carrying and 95% of the people will not even notice. People are to busy with text messages, phone calls and themselves in general to notice what "you" are wearing/carrying.

Can you give an example of an open carry person being atacked because they were open carrying?

I personally conceal carry 95% of the time. but in MI it is not illegal to open carry so if somebody wants to, I do not give them any less respect for doing so.

I have opened carried (OWB) a few times using an on the hip Uncle Mike's sidekick holster when in the (mid) Northern (but not upper) part of MI. Normally I was out in the woods (I always carry out in woods) and went to lunch, maybe dinner, or filled up the truck / jeep with gas.

So maybe once or twice a year I open carry for in an extended period in a town. As a CCW holder you get into a possible bind of brandishing when you open carry. I have not confirmed this, but what a LE customer told me. However that LE is from SE MI, where open carry happens very very rarely.
MI has no open carry law. It does not have any law saying it is legal or illegal to OC. Not being a jerk just making sure you know the facts. you can't tell a cop to look up the OC law that doesn't exist. Since it is not illegal you are able to OC.

Not to be rude but asking a cop about the law is not the best thing to do.
Can you provide any case where somebody that was OC'ing had an issue with a brandishing charge?

Mike Coxx would be the man to ask. Send your question to his office, then keep the responce. The Attorney General is the one to ask about laws.

Lightbulb Concealed

Even though open carry is legal in PA ( except in class 1 cities like Philly and Pittsburgh )...and even though I have carried openly on my own property...I still carry concealed when venturing into the general population of sheeple.

Why give up an advantage...

My state is an OC state, but I still much prefer CC. I never carry OC except to and from the range.

Jerry

I would still CC. There is very little that makes me OC, except Virginias stupid law that does not allow anything but OC in restaurants serving alcohol. I despise it, but do it anyway.

I would carry both!

I used to open carry a lot in MS and TN yrs ago. With no problems.
I happen to disagree that CC is a deterent or even a tactical advantage. I have a real life experience in an armed robbery and gunfight that will back me up on this belief.

That being said; most of the places I go OC could make some uncomfortable.

Because, I'm progun and pro2amdt, I would show respect to those that might not feel comfortable with someone carrying openly. So CC would be utilized most of the time.

There is an advantage to having it exposed also. It could deter a bad guy and you would never know it. I would rather have something not happen and not know about it then have something happen and bullets start flying.

Wink Look at it from a tactical standpoint

Okay, look at this from a tactical standpoint. When you engage multiple targets how do you choose which one to handle FIRST?

Usually it's distance from you to them. Closer is obviously more of a threat. The caveat is if one that's a bit further out is better armed than the rest. So the guy with the sawed off is a greater threat than the guy with the 22 revolver (all other factors being equal), so you take the proper action which may mean run!

Now let's just take another factor that makes concealed carry a greater advantage over open carry. There are gangs out there that are volunteering members to join the military and volunteer for combat. They keep their word and stay clean during basic and AIT. Then they go to war and do the job right (but Baghdad is covered in gang tags).

When they get back to the 'hood, they train the rest of the gang in the real deal: Tactics that work to kill the enemy. If they'll work on the AQ, they'll work on the cops and they'll work on you. These folks won't be deterred by the sight of a weapon. In fact if you think any punk with any arrest history is going to be scared of you just because you're armed, you are in for a sad dose of reality.

The only punks who'll turn tail and run are those who've never really been upstate to prison. Most of the real bad boys are soldiers to evil.

How do I know? I'm a former State of Florida Parole and Probation Officer and I have it directly from the horses mouth, so to speak.

My experience was in the 1980s. Imagine how much worse it's gotten. I can. I'm still in contact with a few of my buddies who went the full stretch in the Dept and retired, recently. I've spoken to the good guy soldiers who've fought along the gang bang contingent serving in the sand. I did the math and it comes out that one of the few real advantages is not disclosing you're armed when you confront the punks who're serious about:
