You are more aware of your surroundings, and people really tend not to notice you anyway. Also a good retention holster is a must, when I OC which is once in a while I carry in my Blackhawk Serpa holster.

Concealed, without a doubt.

I'm from the Detroit Area also...

It all depends on weather, area, mode of my dress and my current tolerence level for the well meaning but uneducated. Like Longrider, I don't automatically buy into the "get shot first" or "get gun taken" crowd. I've looked and looked and found no instance of either happening to an armed, OCing civilian. Sure, happens to LEO's. Had it happen to me a few times(gun grabbing) when I was an LEO, but I can't find anywhere that it has happened to a civilian. That said, I do feel that concealed has definate social advantages and we gun toter's do need to be aware of that as a community.

"If open carry was legal . . ."

Hey man . . . you should know that in MI it is.

But how would I carry? Concealed, still, probably. Don't want the hassle nor the questions nor the attention. OC seems a lot to me like wearing camo to go hunting but then tying on a big orange flag to attract attention. The most effective carrying seems to me like it would be just melting into the general background.

it's legal where i live. i do both; most OC when it's warm out, because wearing a jacket or safari vest on the 4th of july is just silly, and fanny packs are too obvious. it's getting cooler here, so i'll be CCing again soon.

If open carry was legal, how would I carry?

Same as always: responsibly!

It is legal here in WV, but it is probably rarely done successfully. If someone is uncomfortable or scared upon seeing an openly carried handgun and someone calls the police, usually the one carrying is charged with brandishing which is a "breach of peace".

But even if that weren't the case, I would nearly always carry concealed.

Open carry is legal here where I live, and I generally carry:

- concealed, pocket carry or IWB with good cover garment, when at restaurants, civic meetings, concerts, ...

- "relatively" concealed, OWB with so-so cover garment when going about my normal daily activities

- open, OWB, when hunting, fishing, hiking, working in fields
