It seems like you are always going to get some flack when you open carry. There is always going to be an idiot who goes off the deep end and panics at the sight of a gun. I think we call them sheep.

What are the guns like in your area? In Oregon, without a CHL you cant OC in some towns/cities. I had lunch with a few follow OC'ers the other day and after leaving the restaurant one of the guys locked away his gun in his trunk. He didnt have a CHL and would be driving through a town that prohibits OC without it.

Also, a gun on your side could easily become concealed while sitting in a car. Without a CHL, that could be trouble if you're pulled over.

edit: maybe it's you cant OC a loaded weapon without a CHL...

I never saw anyone OC until a few months ago, and I saw two people on seperate occasions carrying, both IWB in a restaurant that serves alcohol (the VA tuck). The first was a gentleman with his wife leaving Joe's Crab Shack in Fairfax, the other was a man with a left handed IWB at a chinese place. Both times, nobody noticed them. I've tried OCing a few places, but didn't feel comfortable with it.

As I have said Wiggy, it is fairly common in parts of Shelby County here. I know of 20 or so people, besides me, in my small town that OC.

The Sheriffs Department here is well trained in civilian open carry and to my knowledge none of us has ever been hassled. I have not had anything but positive comments, some from Deputies in fact.

Here in PA, you may OC w/ out having a LTCF, but the second you get into your vehicle, it is considered CC, for which you absolutely DO need to have your LTCF... From what you describe, I'm guessing that there is some similar law there, whereby he had to remove and secure the unloaded pistol in his trunk, so as to not break the law once he was back in his vehicle (assuming he did not have his LTCF, and/or the laws there are similar to here in PA)...

Oh and PS - "LTCF" is the PA version of everyone else's "CCW," "CWP," etc. etc... ("License To Carry Firearms")... Just trying to preemptively avoid any confusion...

Or, he very well could have just wanted to look cool in 7-11... lol

Regards.

I manage a retail store here in Arizona. We have a couple of people a day that shop in this store that open carry. I just seems like it's not that big of deal here. I have never had another person complain to me about someone else having a gun. Like most people here, I really never thought twice about it.

Although legal, I have seen very, very few OC in the last 10 years. I don't OC. It is not gaining ground in my part of NM.

Jerry

Which is why I want to retire in Arizona. Here in MI we're making headway. Baby steps, baby steps.

Here in Montana, we have a fair amount of people and businesses that are pretty open to Open Carrying. Matter of fact, the restaurant that some of us Carriers have our monthly meetings at is always excited to see us. The sit and BS with us quite a bit and are always happy to see us come in, whether we're all in together or if it's just one of us with our family!!
There's no restriction on OC here in the state so it's not uncommon to see someone doing so in the local establishments!

OC is legal in Kansas except in Topeka, Lawrence, Wichita and KC KS metro area.

However, IF YOU HAVE a Conceal Carry License, you are exempt from any county or city gun laws and could legal OC in the big cities.

Kansas recognizes the Licenses from 22 states, including a non-resident License.
