I posted this over on OCDO about a week ago. I have oc'd around my small town of St Albans for a while without any problems. So after reviewing the many responses on here pertaining to questions about maine laws and walmart corporate policy yesterday, I got in my truck and made my usual run to Newport with my 3yr old daughter. Had to stow my pistol unloaded while in truck, dont have CCW yet . Loaded my Makarov an holstered it strong side in a fobus paddle and walked in. Greeter welcomed me and gave my daughter a smile sticker as usual. Went thru the garden section, ammo (just looking), pharmacy, groceries, then to the checkout. As far as I know no odd looks the cashier definately noticed, she was looking at it while I loaded the belt. But did not seem uncomfortable about it. Greeter said have a nice day and I did!! I look forward to carrying more.
All in all a non event. Jay This is a question I posted over there and maybe someone here could help. Well, I have grown very comfortable with oc everywhere. But one issue really bugs me. I am getting tired of disarming and clearing my pistol every time I get in the truck. Which brings me to a question. In a vehicle, w/o a CCW, What is the proper procedure for securing your firearm. Does it have to be unloaded and out of reach or can it be loaded but in plain view? I cant seem to find anything on this. Thanks Jay |

I find it somewhat amazing that the vast majority of people I meet when I OC don't have issues with this mode of carry. As long at it's legal, and we act as respeonsible adults I don't see why the average people we meet should have issues with OC. So far I've had very little problems OC here in Las Vegas.
The odd part is that I have not seen anyone else doing the same thing. I can't wait to encounter someone else who's OC'ing the same time I've done so.

No OC in Florida, but when I go to Virginia I do, just to get the feel of it; I find it a non-event each time ... so far.
I end up forgettting about the gun after a few minutes.

To the OP, glad it went smoothly, not always the case as you can read in many of the threads.
Another FL resident here who can't OC, but I am thinking about trying it when we are in MI to see the grandkids in a couple of months.

In NM you can carry in your auto, without a CCW, loaded or unloaded, and concealed or open.
You cannot OC in Walmart because they sell alcohol. Best, Jerry |

Pikachu, while open carry is legal here, I would avoid the strip. Metro is almost guaranteed to get a man with a gun call, and you may enjoy your next meal as a concrete buffet. Not right, but very likely to happen. Also, open carry on a casino will likely get you asked to leave. I carry concealed in casinos regularly (in fact, since I never leave home without my gun, every time I'm in a casino I'm carrying concealed).

while i CC in that same walmart very regularly i never OC'd there. I have always been a little reluctant to OC or maybe just to nervous? I OC at home and around Corinna at times but mostly i CC
as for vehicle carry my understanding is without a permit then unloaded in plain view |

you can only put it in the glove box if you're eligible for a permit(which an out of state resident isnt) as for OCing the gun in the car with current case law you cant really do that either, i guess you could hang the pistol from the rear view |
