I think I remember about a year ago a guy got himself in trouble (he shouldn't have) for carrying in a polling line. I believe he made out alright though.

Ya, Greg Rotz. He lives in Chambersburg, I know the guy... he came out ok and got his permit returned because he wasn't breaking the law.

One downside to consider about challenging an employee to show where the store is posted is that an un-posted store might get posted -- for everyone, including those carrying concealed.

Here in Virginia that is no requirement of any sign -- just that you are notified.

IMHO, checking the cooperate policy, then talking to the local manager is the way to go.

I also carry cards that say in part that "I will respect your wishes by taking our business elsewhere, today and in the future. For your convenience you will be added to our (VCDL's) "gun-owners-unfriendly businesses" database.

Dig around and find the official WM letter saying they follow state law. I think it is referenced at opencarry.org forums. I would think that calling WM corporate every time one of their associates misquoted policy would be a good way to have the policy 'clarified' in a way we do not want.

I discussed this issue with someone far more knowledgeable than I am.

He advises that, "This has happened at Lowes before. Each time it was an employee who thought the "no guns" policy for employees applied to customers. It doesn't."

Please keep us posted on your follow up with higher management.

FWIIW I dug this up on OpenCarry.org

My understanding is that Lowes, like HomeDepot, follows the rules of the state that each store is located in. Some may have anti or ignorant managers/district managers, but contacting the home office (who will no doubt refer you to the district manager) should give you a favorable resolution.
If the district manager or store manager who you should initially contact/be contacted by states that it's against company policy, ask them to produce said policy. If they stand fast then recontact the home office.
This has been my experience, YMMV.

I was told my one of my friends who worked a Kroger that they would not be covered by their company ins. or Krogers ins. if they were hurt trying to "defend" the store or the people shopping in the store. He was told that was the security gaurd's job, not his. I could see them not wanting any employees armed to avoid liability.

I believe that Lowes, Home Depot and Walmart, all have policies in place against posting the store for "No Carry" I know this has come up several times here in Ks. where a manger posted the store and a letter to Corp. got slapped in thier face and the posting was removed.

I would love to know what the reasoning is behind this. Liability concerns from the insurance companies lawyers I assume. But it is very irritating. I work for a DOD contractor and I think company policy goes so far as to include pocket knives. Crazy.

It was stated at least once that Lowes is not gun friendly, are they actually not gun friendly to the point of donating to anti hunting and/or anti gun groups? I prefer Lowes over Home Depot and would be bummed if that were the case.
