The clerk was an anti gun kook He should have kept his mouth shut when he didn't know what he was talking about and he might not have been demoted. That was a good follow up.

The OP was LEAVING the store as the employee made the comment. It's not trespassing if you leave the place after being asked to leave. And, from what the OP said, he wasn't even asked to leave. The employee just quoted a non-existant policy.
