Not when we had a robbery up the street the one day. They got there post haste... I mean they were moving. I think the time from when I called to when they arrived was like 2 minutes.

Still not fast enough to prevent the robbery tho...

yeah...I had the same thought. She should be brought up on charges for filing a false report. She knew darn well he wasn't "brandishing". She just didn't like it.

Two minutes? Good thing a gun wasn't needed in say the next 15 seconds.

Remember boys and girls... "When seconds count... the police are still just minutes away!"

But then, we all already know that! Those who don't, aren't members of this forum, right?

I know sometimes the stupidity of sheep can drive us all a little crazy but I always try to look at these instances as an opportunity. Nows my chance to maybe change a mind. It's worth a try anyway. Bravo to the cop and the way he handled the situation. Sounds like he knew she was an idiot.

I have a hunch the lady never used the word brandishing; if she knew the word she would know enough to have been aware that what was done was legal.

I think she called in a man with a gun call, probably even told dispatch it was
holstered and not used in a threatening manner, hence the slow police response.

The officer just asked the question in a way that might have elicited an admission of brandishing IF the original poster had in fact unholstered the pistol.

By asking the question as he did, getting the answer he got, and combining that with the fact that the lady only made a man with a gun call, the officer was able to quickly determine that all was O.K., and leave.

I imagine the conversation with 911 went something like:

Her--There's a man with a gun on walking around on the front lawn.
Disp. What is he doing.
Her-- mowing the lawn
Disp.--Is the gun in his hand or in a holster
Her--oh, no, mam, he is just mowing his lawn
Disp--Did he threaten you in any way
Her--No, he's just walking around with a gun where everyone can see it, I'm afraid for the kids in the neighborhood
Disp.--O.K. we'll look into it.

The responding officer knew what was up before he arrived. He just verified by asking the question in an interesting way. Sounds good to me on the officer's part. Dumb on the ladies part. Dumb, but understandable. The overwhelming majority of people are simply unaware that there are places where open carry is legal. The possibility that this lawn mowing guy might be OCing legally, might even be an LE mowing his lawn, just never entered her mind. The police in an abundance of caution, did need to double check, because what if.....what if it wasn't legally carried? What if it was Mr. Nut Job and her observation was the first indication that something was about to happen?

Ignorance is bliss.
Me too, as if carrying around children somehow puts them in mortal danger.

And that was it. He drove off. He didn't even get out of the car...

I just wanted to be left alone.
That sounds like a very well thought-out question. I am still chuckling thinking about how carefully phrased that was. Sounds like he knew what he was doing and got to minimize his paperwork for the evening. Funny encounter all around.

+1 but I thought it was a crime to abuse the 911 system or make a false report?

True. Very true. Wonder if they caught up with whomever was slacking on that? Someone needs a little reminding...
