Jamie,
Ohio gun rights are steadily moving in the right direction since 2003...and we didn't have to give up anything. The only thing that we had to do was to show that we are responsible gun owners/carriers. That equates to really doing nothing because we already are.

There are no laws in Ohio concerning OC. Are you proposing one?
I still am unable to comprehend that concealed carry passed in OH. I am pleased that it did.
You are correct in there being no OC laws in OH and, why would I propose one when it is not necessary?

One more time:

Exactly what "inch" would you like to give?

Licensing?
Registration?
"Assault weapons"?
Concealed carry?
Handguns?

Whose support would you be willing to trade the above for?
How would that "support" benefit gun owners?

Whom do you think would be a better advocate for gun owners than the NRA?

Again, what "inch" are we supposed to give, and to whom?

"Gunshow loophole"? What's that? Please be specific.

As I noted elsewhere today regarding someone in another forum, it appears that AHSA is mounting another one of its feeble attempts to sucker gullible gun owners into contributing to the ailing "movement" to keep them from BEING gun owners.

AHSA is the equivalent of "Blacks for Jim Crow". Nobody's buying it.
Back off. I shot off a quick response before attending a school board meeting. Cruising the Internet for hours on end is not in the cards tonight.

The gun show loophole in OH avoids the NICS check at gunshows. I have never purchased at a gunshow, as the deals are not there. If I have to go through the NICS check at my local gunshop, I would have no problem doing the same at a gun show. This is a minor concession to make, if required.

If you want to have a rational discussion, that is fine. If you are looking for a fight, please look elsewhere. Right now, I have to watch the end of the LAA / NYY game since I missed most of it earlier.

I wasn't aware that Ohio gunshows were exempted from Federal law. All dealers have to run a NICS check, regardless of the location. Anything else would ban private sales. Is that what you want? Do you want to ban private sales?

You haven't answered any of my reasonable questions. Please do so.

That is what I am trying to say. Thanks for saying it so well. We need to support each other and our rights, whether we choose to exercise those rights or not. God knows that the antis won't.

BuckeyeEric-

Yes, you are correct that we did not have to give up anything. My point in compromise is to understand that we may have to, not that we need to. It depends on the issue. I am still stunned with the CC passage in OH since I seem to recall that OH law enforcement was a large stumbling block during the final months, with the OSP leading the negative charge.

Ironically after the law passed, I stopped at the local OSP post to try and get clarification on the original law's requirement to have the weapon in a lockae case or glovebox. The OSP Sargent was a real jerk, and gave me a hard time about the passage of the law, and my need to get a permit. I finally had to tell him to worry about the criminals carrying weapons, and that I was the least of his problems as I had passed a state and federal background check. I advised him that our discussion was over and left.

My concern with OC is that too many folks don't understand the need to carry a weapon for self defense, and freak when they see the open carry of weapons. I am still amazed with folks who think that CC is totally off-the-wall, and cannot understand the concept. The stealth of CC is why I am such a proponent of this method.

WIth concealed carry, I can proceed through the day without incident, justification, arguement, or interaction of others.

The private sales at the gun shows are what I was thinking of - I was wrong. And no, I would not want to ban private sales. Do you want me to answer twice, since you asked twice, or are you good with one? Will you please calm down!

The only people at gun shows that I have seen that were not running background checks, were people making private sales. If you banned this, your friends could not sell you a weapon without doing a background check on you. If they banned it at gun shows, don't think that they wouldn't ban it in private homes. Just something to think about. Like I said, support each other or we will all lose.

How about the rest of my questions?

What "inch" do you want to give up, and to whom?
