I have never been asked. I am a big guy, 6'3", 285, I guess people just dont notice it. I dont wear holsters that stick out either. All of mine are very close and tight against the body. I live by the thought that "if you act like you know what you are doing, most people will think you do, and never question."

But it is classified as a weapon. I don't currently see anything about carrying black powder weapons and since I don't own any I don't really know. I'll keep looking.

So, what you need to do is give your state legislature a bit of perspective and get rid of the "no open carry" stuff.
In the woods, maybe. Try that in town and see how it works out for you.

Until it is changed through a vote in the legislature I suggest caution and common sense. Pushing the line and thrill seeking may get you more attention than you originally desired. The OP stated a pistol in a social setting and that is what I was referencing. You do as you please.

mine is definitely along the lines of, "Why do you think you need to carry a gun?" I get so sick of hearing it from people I tend to just say that is my business, not yours.

Of the few times my sidearm was spotted, the first and only question was "Are you a cop or something?" My reply to this question, was..."Yep, or something." Nothing more was said.

I got asked if my gun was a lighter once.

Then it was followed up by, "Are you a police officer?"

My most common question when OC'ing is along the lines of "Hey, what are you carrying there?"

People who see it and don't like tend to avert their gaze and move on.

So that's why custom pistols are called barbecue guns! They're used as lighters to fire up the grill.

I voted for "are you a cop?" but that question is almost tied with Poll Category Other: "why do you think you need it?"

OK...I'm standing at the Rx counter at Walmart waiting to get some meds and a lady walks up behind me and said, "Ohh...you're carrying a gun...you're not going to shoot me, are you?"

I politely turned to her and replied, "No, as long as you are not a threat to me, you're safe."
