Let me fix this quote:

Quote:
Anytime someone of color is walking around on the streets, they are acting as a self appointed ambassador for all people of color. I've always felt that if you weren't in the mood or have the skills to represent people of color with a positive attitude and be willing to educate in a professional way, then you should stay indoors. You tend to ruin the chance to put other people of color in a positive light.

To me the camera jockey missed a chance to educate, enlighten, and maybe even make some head way into how police approach a person of color. There are more ways to stand for an ideal other than being a finger wagging ass.
This would make just as much sense to me, as what you said. You could change the words up to fit any class of people, race or hobby etc. Why do so many people talk about open carriers, being ambassadors for the 2nd Amendment? So you would discriminate against any group of people, for something that one person did? I open carry, and all that I am trying to do is, be an ambassador for my own safety and the safety of my family. Sometimes you have to be a finger wagger to get your point across. Every time I watch one of these videos and read the following discussions, all I hear is a bunch of people criticizing what the person did. If the person was not breaking the law, why do they have to be a moron or an ass? Some people are not as eloquent speakers as others and they have to get their point across as best as they can.

It also did not look like they were on private property either.

If these people were disorderly, or preventing anybody from going into the clinic, they would have been bundled, and trundled off to jail.

The cop realized he had a whole lot of nothing and he moved on.
My point is that there is a gray area in the law that seems to be written for this type of situation. IE, depending on the LEO's and magistrates definition of demonstration, etc, you may find yourself in some trouble. It's just not very cut and dry. He's on OCDO and it seems he measured his options and the risk was worth it for him. And he is on private property and has permission to be there, per him on OCDO. He is not on the clinic property. That is probably the biggest factor in him walking away from this. If he had been OC'ing on clinic property he would have been breaking the law. We may not like the law, but we have to know and abide by it till it is changed. And NC gun laws are notoriously vague.

You must be able to prove who you say you are...

The Cop was asking for his Drivers license not an ID.
From what I saw the guy was just walking by, he had no idea what was even going on.

The officer was way out of bounds by getting in his face about it.

My twin is an LEO and he deals with people who have guns all the time, the difference is he understand the laws concering guns in our area, so nothing like this has ever occured to him. He knows he is at fault that is why he leaves for a second to get a second opinion and thats when he leaves.

"Am I being detained?"

Needs to stop saying that. Give the cop your driver's license and shut up.

When you act like a storm trooper, people respond to you like you are a storm trooper. When you act civil and respectfully, people will respond simularly.

Kudos to the officer for recognizing he started the encounter poorly and chose to walk away from an incident that could have ended poorly if he stayed with his opening course. It was obvious that the video taker was not going to recognize that things had started poorly and wasn't going to help the situation (note his responses were short and provocative).

Sometimes exercising your rights can get a bit dicey if you don't use common sense and be sensitive about it.

Could things have gone bad for all involved? You bet.

Sort of like if someone were to put on a KKK outfit and walk into an area of Harlem. Yea it's legal but not too smart!

So to me that makes him a moron. Now if people want to go places like that and draw attention to themselves have at it.

"Here's your sign!"
Ok, so owning guns and "Bearing" them is like being in the KKK?

Yeah, he's a moron.

Why does Joe Schmoe feel he need to go do anything and start taking video?

By choice he unnecessarily inserted himself in a bad situation. He got hassled for it - duh, who didn't know that!

Cop wasn't the brightest bulb.

Some of you really need to re-watch that video.

When the cop turned around he told him to "hang-on" and said "you will be right(detained) here shortly".

It was NOT a mistake or a moron more to follow the cop back to the car.

Quite possibly the cop could have charged him with disobeying a lawful order if the OCer had turned and left the scene which is what some here have suggested.

On a side note:
Why do some of you insist on interjecting laws of your own state and try to hold the person to those standards when they simply do not apply to him? Seems quite childish to try to use this type of tactic to support your flimsy argument.

To the poster that stated that he should have "Give the cop your driver's license and shut up".

I'm sure some of the Jews were saying that in the early days too.

Those that fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it.
