Open carry around Lookout Mountain Georgia
Hi,
I'm planning a hang gliding trip to Lookout Mountain and was wondering if I should O/C there or would I be better off concealing ? I don't want to land somewhere with no protection, if I can't make the LZ for some reason . |

You "should" be fine OCing on Lookout.
Most of the land owners are used to people landing in their fields. As for the spectators, many are from other states (and/or countries). Some of these people are not used to seeing openly carried firearms. It may cause some curiosity, but I doubt you'll have any actual issues. As long as the owner of the launch site has no issue with it, you're good. Make sure that you stay away from Point Park on up the mountain (near Rock City and the Incline Railway) as it's a National Military Park and off limits until Feb.'10. Oh yeah......good luck with that whole jumping off the mountain thing. I don't jump off anything without a parachute. I do, however, like to watch y'all do it. |

Thanks.
We have reserve chutes. Seriously though, you'd be surprised how safe it is. You do have to be careful though, very careful, Like with guns, mistakes can be fatal. I'm going to conceal, it'll just be easier that way. |

If you don't make it to the landing area you are going to Erlanger in Chattanooga. Either the E.R. or morgue. Should be no trouble OC around the area just watch for the Federal land and battlefield area's. Like HKR said watch Point Park also most of the trails on the TN side of Lookout are under US Park Service control. Don't carry to Cravens House either. Most of the battlefield area's are marked. Good luck and good flying.

Could you imagine the headlines if someone was clocked by a flying Glock ?The more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards just taking the LCP up and concealing it. The Glock can wait in the truck safe. Thanks for the advice and info ya'll . |

I graduated from Covenant College up there on the mountian. Beautiful area.
Had a friend who hang glided a lot there. He told me about times when he lost his 'thermal.' Pretty terrifying. Had a few hard landings along the way too. Are you sure you want to carry in the unlikely event of injury or unconsciousness? (I'd admit I prefer my feet squarely on the ground.)
