Brier Creek is awfully close to Cary (Containment Area for Relocated Yankees), so its quite possible just such a relocated Yankee was the complainant.
I have a friend that OC's all the time. I'm really quite proud of him. He is one of those guys that really does know his rights and is willing to vocally defend them. I actually bought him the gun he carries for his birthday the year he opened his bar. He only had one handgun at the time, and it was too big for what he needed. He also carries at his bar (mostly concealed), but OCs most everywhere else (though he does have a CHP for when he wants to cover it). We had lunch the other day and he was OCing. Anyway, he got thrown out of Wal-Mart in Garner (I think White Oak, but I'm not sure) for OCing. Police were not called, just one of the managers told him he had to leave. Its private property, so he did just that. However, being the guy he is, he didn't leave it at that. He pushed the issue up the chain until the general manager told him he was welcome in the Wal-Mart anytime, and if he wanted to OC while he was there, he was welcome to do that too.

I "heard" that from a number of different sources, including class. I apologize for not citing my sources. I didn't realize they were relevant to the question I was asking.

Ok. I wasn't trying to give you a hard time. These regs need to be ingrained during these classes. Intending to follow the law can still get people in trouble.
I was just asking who gave the course, not trying to get you to divulge your sources. |

As mentioned, there are in fact laws governing open carry. Most of the time these are related to carrying weapons or firearms in general and are not specific to one type of carry (especially open carry, since concealed carry does have its own set of rules).
I agree I would avoid OC in CH / Durham and Cary. I believe Cary has a law that prohibits open carry, actually. I know for a fact that Chapel Hill has an ordinance prohibiting open carry of an "easily concealable" firearm, which is by their definition of a length 6" or less. In other words, a lot of semiauto service models would be large enough to be exempt, but typical carry revolvers and most compact / subcompact semis would be prohibited. As for durham, I wouldn't go somewhere like that without a gun and I also wouldn't advertise it. |
