I bought a level 3 molle vest with plate inserts. That way I have bullet protection and molle tabs for carrying mags/flashlights/etc.

By vest... do you mean a vest like the 5.11 model - reasonably normal looking, but can be used to carry a lot of spare mags? Or are you talking about bullet-resistant vests?

Ya are we talking balistic vest, assault vest or a carry all vest.

Balistic vest - best out there is Safariland Cover 6.

Assault vest - Blackhawk or Eagle

Carryall vest - 5.11 makes a good one that has mag pouches hidden and dosent make you stand out.

If your not a LEO and just packing a bug out bag vest, I'd go with one of the 5.11 ones as you can load them suckers down and carry a whole lot of stuff. US Cavalry sells two that are very well priced. Their Forager Vest dosent have as many pockets, but its served me well for about 15 years (http://www.uscav.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=7616) and their Safari Travelers Vest is very similar to the 5.11 one but about 1/3 of the price (http://www.uscav.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=5659), and has worked and still does duty in my deployment bag since 1999.

The 5.11 is probably a good choice. Tons of pockets... and they come with a 'back-up-belt' system that lets you carry a holster inside the vest itself. The company makes pretty good products.
