No one seems to notice the 5.11 pants I wear to work. they blend in enough to just look like any other cargo pants.

Agreed BE.

Cargo pants and cargo shorts as well as painters style shorts are very much popular with most suburban & mall cruiser types.
When I see 5.11s in specific on folks I do think 'gun' and will give them a more thorough visual check but thats only because I know the difference between 5.11 pants/shorts and average run of the mill cargo pants. Plus I'm a bit of a fashionista as well. :p

I own no 5.11 anything and very often wear cargo shorts, and don't give it a second thought.
Frankly most average zone clothing in itself does not mean much not even the activity/gun vest wearing folks. Most important is looking for odd lumps, bumps, and the wearer checking & rechecking his gear or walking, bending, and moving in odd/stilted/unnatural ways.
Not that that matters much either as a BG most likley will not be carrying his equipment holstered at his side but carried Mexican Style at his liver, appendix, or in his front pocket.

5.11 clothing ID = 'Good Guy' or Cop

I think the 5.11 pants look pretty much like cargo pants to most people. In fact, I might check them out. I wear cargo pants at work quite often. With a bad back & looking at maybe another surgery, cargo pants are handy. I don't wear a thick wallet in my back pockets anymore. I switched to just a badge wallet & a thin wallet with "stuff" in it in the other. My front/cargo pockets hold my credit card pocket wallet & I use a money clip/knife nowadays.

If the 5.11 pants are better built & last longer, they're worth a look & really don't think anyone'll notice.

I see a guy wearing starched khaki 5.11s to church, with a Polo knit style shirt. He is not a gun-toter. They actually look fine. I'm not sure I would, even though it's a pretty laid back church...as much denim as slacks. I've never heard his pants scream gun, or even say "Amen." I think it's the press and starch...civilizes them.
I never thought of IRONING and STARCHING them before. Isn't that like polishing a pair of pliers?
All joking aside, I like them even if "all the cool HSLD guys" wear them.

Hmm, a few times after getting caught in the rain with my tools I have had to give my Channel Locks a good polish.

I guess I need to start ironing too...

Would wearing 5.11 pants to an office type job make me a mall ninja, I'm NOT loaded with all the latest techno gizmo's, but do like the durabality, and fit. The only carry items are my EDC strong side, and a spare mag on my weak side.
As long as you keep your Concealed Handgun Badge hidden in your pocket, you'll be OK.

Wearing it on your belt of your 5.11's, however is not a good thing. While doing so does guarantee your acceptance in the Mall Ninja Academy, it can be seen as poor etiquette to the millions of mall ninja wannabees.

Be sure to never wear black 5.11's. They are only to be worn with the black 5.11 shirts. In high traffic areas, where people can be a problem it is acceptable to wear the black 5.11 tactical vest with 20 something pockets for all of the needed tactical equipment but it is only to be worn by the Mall Ninja Academy Graduates so that they can instantly recognize each other without a spoken word.

Everything else is fine.

But be careful...once you start wearing the pants, its a very slippery slope...first its the pants, then the shirts, then the vest....
