I have a pair of Peerless cuffs that were used when I bought 'em in 1964.
Related note: If you ever come across a pair of S&W Airweight cuffs, grab 'em, they're collector's items. I knew an FBI Agent once who carried a pair.

![]() Last set I had were peerless. I have been thinking about taking a look at ASP as they come in a variety of colors and IIRC also have a "training model" ![]() Oh yeah, IIRC another reason to avoid Hiatts is they take a non standard key. And we know how keys get lost at the most inopportune times.. |

The ASP handcuffs are seriously sweet. I have handled a pair and they are really well made. I think they will replace the S&W and the Peerless cuffs as the top brand very soon.

On base we were issued the S&W and I've never had a problem with them myself.

![]() But no, seriously, I simply want a pair of good handcuffs to replace a pair that went away (which were Peerless; and at the time I didn't know they were "the good brand"). The use to which I might put them has little to do with it, and I would not rule out using them on someone who had to be detained -- circumstances would dictate how that would go but once again "it's better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them." Thanks for the input, fellas. |

You'll get hurt, LEOs are trained to detain whereas we are not. They cuff people who are compliant or otherwise wait for backup. I've read a lot of response about this in the past over on THR, seen a few well meaning permit holders get chewed out and raked through hell for saying they were adding cuffs to the bat-belt. Leave them on the bed post, cover the BG with your weapon, call 911, let the pros cuff him. When you get that close to someone with little to lose they have a tendency to act like a cornered rat, straight at your throat. I'm not trying to offend you, but you need to think this one through. The best case scenario is you get litigated against for wrongful arrest and detention when the jury sides against you for being a weird guy strolling about the neighborhood with cuffs. |

0.02 has posted some good advice. I don't know how you'd explain yourself in court if something went south for you in the course of your attempting to cuff and detain someone. A police officer's defense and explanation might be that his actions were consistent with the training his agency provided. You'd have no such justification.
