That is a very nice vest! I wear vests often, and have several; every time I put one on, I find something I "lost" the last time I wore it! The leather in the pocket works very well, as does one of the holster inserts designed for vests.

I went out to the new Cabela's here in St Louis to get a good fishing vest to use for carrying my camera equipment when I didn't want to wear either a backpack or carry a big shoulder bag. The very nice salesperson suggested I take a look at their Safari vests, when he found out what I was looking for.

Found out I can carry almost as much camera gear as my backpack, with the exception of my super-telephoto. And even better there is an inside pocket I discovered in which my XD45C Tactical fits just beautifully and either my P220 or P226 will fit even better.

I don't know who came up with the "shoot me first" name for vests because photographers, and travelers, have been wearing high capacity vests for years. Long before they were discovered to be good for concealing weapons.

Here in Michigan the colder weather allows us dress easier and concealing a gun is a lot easier. I bought a Dickies vest and the only thing it screams that I might have an outside job. It is not tactical like the Sig vest but it does the job and not even CCW people will know the difference.

If you Like Concealment Vests, Check Out Corobado Leather

I'll say this for anyone who DOES like wearing vests as one alternative means for CCW but who wishes to avoid the "shoot me vest" typicals. This assumes, also, that the "style" suits your preference.

I personally prefer strongside IWB carry and do so 99% of the time. However, I do live in FL where I can ride my motorcycle pretty much year-round, so amongst "bikers", (and with so many bikers around in this state) I don't think vests even rouse a 2nd-thought glance by anyone. I primarily use a purpose-designed CCW vest as a cover garment for IWB carry - and it just gives me an alternative option if-when desired.

Anyone who does like or use vests should check out Coronado Leather. They make various styles from casual to western style to biker style and "dressier" (well as "dressy" as a vest can be) as well as high-quality purpose-designed CCW handbags and pocketbooks for the ladies.

Okay - reason for the post: Coronado vests are very pricey. But absolutely worth every penny in every aspect - quality of materials used, design craftsmanship, worksmanship, durability and, above all, concealability. What Milt Sparks is to concealment holsters, Coronado Leather is to leather concealment vests, and then some.

The vest I have from them is called a "Safari Model" - which they do not list in their current, latest catalogue, so unknown if they still carry that model or not - but the nature of construction is similar for all models. I'm a relatively small guy - only 5'6" - but I could literally carry both a full-size 1911 and a big klunky full-size Glock Model 21 .45 ACP (14-rounder) in my Coronado vest AT THE SAME TIME with ZERO printing.

All their vest models have two very deep internal slash concealment pockets, one on each side. There is some kind of internal panel sandwiched between the concealment pocket & the outer leather layer that reduces printing to nil. The concealment pockets in the Safari model are lined with some kinda weird synthetic material that I seriously think I'd have difficulty cutting with a sharp knife. I can't envision them ever "wearing out" or holing.

Sewn into the concealment pockets is a durable thick elastic loop through which the barrel is inserted for holding pistol at good angle & position for convenient grip access & draw. In addition, removable interior pocket holsters are provided for the gun you specify at time of order. I never even needed to use the pocket holster inserts.

Sandwiched between the layers of leather there are X-crossed panels across back & shoulders to eliminate any pull-down or unbalanced sagging from the weight of a full-size pistol. The vests are fully cloth-lined on interior and are trimmed with leather on the interior hemline waistband region to mimimize wear against belt-worn items.

The vest interiors also have a wallet-sized upper pocket and a zippered lower pocket suitable for spare mag, folding knife or other items. Various styles will have various differing number & placement of external pockets.

Personally, i selected the Safari model because I like to carry lots of 'stuff" and security against loss is important when riding the bike - the safari model was unique in that the ezterior lower R-L pockets were triple-layered -
an open slash hand-warmer pocket, then a deep zippered pocket, topped by a flapped, snappered pocket. Nice little touches, like the outer, male snapper halves sandwiched between leather layers so none of the exterior snap hardware even shows. Zippers that essentially "disappear" into their leather track-channels when zippered closed, etc. So this Safari vest had a total of 12 internal & external pockets without so much looking like a typical photographers or shooter's vest at all.

They also make one general-purpose-wear vest specifically designed with a straight-cut and longer hemline designed to serve as both a concealment vest as well as being long enough for an effective IWB cover garment.

It ain't too often I "sing praises" about any manufacturer's items, but FWIW I think Coronado Leather is deserving of them. Have zero affiliations, am just a very satisfied customer.

Thumbs up SigTac Vest

I have been wearing a SigTac vest almost every day for about 3 months. I use a Blackhawk Serpa OWB holster strongside. After just 3 months, the interior of the vest rubbing on the holster has worn down the cloth on the interior of the vest. I contacted Sig and they shipped me a replacement free of charge. I absolutely love the vest and I believe it is better than the 5.11. The new one is already showing wear on the inside again. I am planning on trying to stitch or iron on some sort of patch to prevent the rubbing with the holster. Just my 2 cents.

You could put a little mole skin on the points that are doing the damage. (Or get a good leather holster from TT Gunleather!)

As to the "shoot me" look of a vest I am working on changing that image on my vests. A shooting buddy of mine has his wife making some very nice cover vests herself. They have all the functions I am after without all the extra Tactical looking pockets. I am also going to have a local company but a logo on the back and maybe front chest. Maybe my Team Dirt Devil Motorcycle / ATV Club or maybe Boy Scouts of America or some other group I am involved with. This would also help to loose the Gun look and make it more of an advertisment like a hat or T-Shirt with a similar logo.

I have been thinking about getting a vest, the wife thinks they are hideous and i really dont feel like listening to her grip about what I am wearing. I am looking through Coronado now and I am liking what I see. Are there anyother sites I can look at?
