Lasers have there place. If you decide to use one, don't let it be a substitute for your sights. Most of the time the only aid a laser gives is in developing bad habits!

I can envision some possible SHTF circumstances where having a projected red dot keyed in at the exact POI would be highly useful and maybe lifesaving in certain life threatening scenarios and situations.
Lasers are also a God-Send for some defensive folks with vision related idiosyncrasies. And certainly people who are not willing or able to practice much with their carry firearm but, still have the desire and right to "armed self-defense" are probably better off having a laser system than not having one. ![]() Sorry...I couldn't resist putting on a pic.

And then you still have your iron sights.

If you are actually going to use your weapon in self-defense, are you really going to need the red dot? C'mon, it a quick draw and shoot in that situation. If you have time to stragically place a bead on someone before you pull the trigger, I doubt it's true self-defense. Think about it.
Laser is not going to make a difference in an actual defensive situation. Don't be dillusional. |

No one need be delusional!
We all assume - which it might well be - that a confrontation is fast and furious - over in seconds... if so then a laser probably is no great shakes - academic even. Let's consider other possible scenarios, where maybe you are boxed in, multiple perps - longer range shots and each has to count - probably from cover. No way to know how anything might go down. Each to his own - if no one wants these things that's no prob to me - agree to disagree etc. However, I'll keep mine - and apart from anything else, the actual CT grip itself on my SIG is even better than the factory grip. ![]()

I'm sorry, MO is a waste of money. We carry for self defense. with that in mind lets look at what happens during an encounter.
BG comes up and introduces himself, then notifies you of his intent, then gives you a 1.5 minute head start to get a good bead on him, you fire, BG goes down. Not! BG come up to you, he pulls a weapon, you draw and fire without really aiming. More likely. I read an article where some police are trained to shoot by pointing. Not to be confused with point shooting (From the hip). They found the majority of the officers do not have time to take careful aim. Thats why when I practice, I draw keeping both eyes open looking at the threat, rely on gut instinct (Just like shooting a slingshot) then fire when I feel its on target. This training method to me seems to be more realistic to a real life scenario. If you are going for accuracy, then you should be shooting bullseye competition. I am not trying to be smart, but we should train to respond to the way the threat would actually present itself to us. My target is a life sized human head drawn on printer paper and is set at 21 to 28 feet away, and not trying to brag because it took probably about 1500 rounds to do it, but I can strike the head every draw and fire this way. beyond 10 yards I would say that you do have more of a chance of taking careful aim as the BG is running on adrenalin and is probably shooting wild.
