Cree LED Replacement for Surefire 6P - It's here

I've had a couple of Surefire lights for about three years and have been wanting to upgrade one or both to use LED.

Found Dealextreme.com from another forum and started looking at replacement LED's for the 6P that were in the $10 range shipped from Hong Kong.

After doing some reading on CandlePowerForums I decided to go with the SKU# 6090 from dealextreme which cost me $10.14.

Order it on December 20th, got an e-mail confirming shipping status on 12/23 and received the LED in the mail today 12/29. I was planning on waiting 3-4 weeks as that is how long some were waiting for packages, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Pulled it out of the packaging and tried it in the light. Did not fit as shipped, which I was anticipating. Some have had good luck removing the outer spring on the LED module, but it was too loose in my light. I ended up cutting the outer spring to use as basically a washer/spacer. Ended up working perfectly.

The LED gives the light more of a blue tint than the factory incandescent bulb which turns yellow as the batteries fade. To my untrained eyes the light is much brighter than before and sure the hell hurts if shined into ones eyes(don't ask).

Thus far I am more than pleased with this $10 upgrade and cannot see the Surefire upgrade for $39 being any better than this one, except for the fact you will not have to tinker.

I will try and post some pictures of the upgrade and possibly pictures that will show how bright the LED is.

Damn my eyes are killing me still after more than 15 minutes.

It's not dark yet, but indoors so far the Cree is blowing away the original. The main focal point is of similar diameter, but the Cree has a much larger overall spread.

I'll do some more testing as it becomes dark and let you know.
