Is your bedroom on the second floor? If so you might want to reconsider putting it there. It will be a super hassle of getting it up there. If you have it delivered it will cost extra if they have to take it up the stairs as well. You might also consider getting the exact dimension of the safe in advance and cutting a piece of 3/4 in plywood to set it on, to help distribute the weight, as well as balance it out if setting on carpet. If your house has a concrete slab floor you don't need to worry about weight distribution.

I'd say its time to get a safe too. I would keep it in a basement or main floor.

For the tile problems, I laid down a path of plywood over my tile and had no problems.

Cool Quality safe

I think probably the best way to get a really good quality gun safe in your house is to build the house around the safe.

Good idea to get a safe. Better late then never. May I suggest that you get one that will be allot bigger. If you think you will get five more guns in the future get a safe that will hold fifteen more then you think you will ever own. Gun safes have a real bad habit of running out of room real fast.

We've just decided to tile the entire house next week. The company agreed to move the two safes...said no problem...apparently have an 'air dolly'...said it could move very heavy stuff with one finger...jacks it up and floats on a cushion of air...we'll see.
They guarantee the work.

You've done the right thing. I've collected guns for as long as I can remember. In the 1980's I was TDY to Georgia for an operational readyness inspection and my wife (also active duty) was working 16 hour days. We got broke into while she was at work. The only gun the crooks got was my wife's S&W 649 Bodyguard. It was the only one not in a vault. It was the house gun. We now that 2 vaults with S&G dial locks and a 4 finger electronic 2, handgun minisafe for the house gun in our bedroom that will open almost instantly. Get the biggest vault you can afford because it's easy to get started on filling them up. My first one was a Browning/Prosteel in 1983 and was not fire resistant but it did what it was supposed to do when they broke in. The vaults will also help you keep your guns in nicer condition. I've never had one rust while in a safe. Our two large vaults are on either side of our front door. We live in the country with an 800' long drive way and most of the guns in the front of the vaults have loaded magazines to handle the typical country critters that can be problems. Skunks, feral dogs, cats, opossums, coons and of course loaded for possible BG situations.

I've seen some impressive safe rooms with vault doors. Wish I could have done that when we moved here 16 years ago. Instead of hiddy holes people are building above ground safe rooms that are great for fires, tornados or crooks. I see a lot of nice safe rooms with cheap doors too, what a waste.

Safe? Definately! One of the best purchases for your guns that you'll ever make. If it's going to the second floor of your house, just make sure the area you're putting it in can handle the weight. My safe only weighs 700lbs but that's pretty damn heavy if it's not parked in the right spot. Mine is parked a few inches above concrete so it's not a problem for me.

If it's being moved to a second floor, get it delivered. I picked mine up and moved it myself. It took some ingenuity, a little time, and a dolly/floor jack hybrid moving combination to get it where I needed it but I got it done! lol I had saved up just enough to buy the safe at a gun show with the electronic lock so I had nothing left for delivery!

Well worth the cost.

I don't have an expensive one yet, but the one I have serves its purpose well.
