Virginia Tech had, and still has, an escort service called "Safe Ride"....

So does our University here...

Yes we all have call boxes... and we tell you not to walk alone... and we tell you it's relatively safe... and to be aware... and we all deny Concealed Weapons permit holders to carry...

What do we do if something does happen? We hire a few more police... put up a few more call boxes... Maybe we put in a voice public address system so we can tell you a Crime HAS occured... and thats about all we CAN do. If truth be told...

(psst... this thread is in the wrong forum)

Sounds like downtown Detroit is safe also at night. I thought they might issue the old whistle as proof that your safe.

You are as safe on campus as you are at the Mall or in Church...

Naw. It's the Public Ivy University a little bit west of that.

Universities are thug rapist magnets, in my experience. Large groups of affluent defenseless kids. Think it is past time for every student that is victimized by violent crime to sue the University for requiring that they be unarmed. Even if they do not win maybe the court costs will make them see the light. My kids will only go to a university they can carry as long as I am footing the bill. Except the one in Europe but that is a whole different ball game

Five more of our children slaughtered on one of those "Safe" campus. Sixteen more maimed and mutilated. All those who support these victim zones need to be required to tell the parents of these young men & women that they are the ones who assured that the killer would be safe while he slaughtered their unarmed defenseless children

My Experiences

From my own point of view, my campus (Washington State University) is "pretty safe". We have well lit areas, call boxes (which aren't completely useless, only close to), and a transportation service. On the other hand, looking through the eyes of a BG, I can see dozens of potential hazards, if not hundreds.

-Our after dark transport service is for women only, I realize that women might appear to be easier targets, but I'm pretty sure men can be shot, maimed and killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

-The dormitories have nobody around downstairs after about 6 PM, and only the "troublesome" dorms have a police presence, usually a cruiser hanging out to bust underage drinkers on the weekends.

-You can always "buddy up" with the wrong person, in fact if I was a BG that would be an excellent way to find out where a girl lives.

-Our campus police don't patrol Greek Row, a great place to find lots of intoxicated/vulnerable people.

-And so on.

Crime doesn't run rampant through my campus by any means, but there is great potential for abuse. You also have thousands of young people who are living on their own for the first time, someone mentioned that it's a BG's paradise full of marks, which is a frighteningly accurate comment.

Just my two cents....

Bury the dead or allow permit holders to carry

See post 27 Whack job walked right into what a auditorium or lecture hall and laid waste to students faster than sheep at a slaughter house. IMO that is what ALL Gun Free Victim Zones are. Slaughter houses waiting for the butcher to show up
