Flying with Musket
Does anyone know of a supplier for a case that I can put on a plane that would fit a 58 inch long rifle? I did a search with no result.
Thanks |

Tough size for a hard case - the only I've found are long soft rifle socks. Try looking at some of the "Re-enactment" sites or forums?
BTW - Welcome!

Can't help - just measured my cases and longest is about 54" ... heck that is some length to accomodate for yours and needs in essence a slim 5 foot long deal. Almost makes me think of needing something custom made.
I think for searching I'd check out all muzzle load suppliers and maybe include Cabellas too ... best of luck! Gotta be something ''out there" - and hopefully someone within our huge membership might know. Oh yeah - and welcome ![]()

Is it built like the Hawkens and Lyman rifles that you can remove wedge pins and seperate the barrel brom the stock? If so then you would only need one long enough to accomodate the barrel length.

Go to a local golf store/shop. I'll bet they got just what you need. My rifles and heavy clothing fit neatly into my hard case for my clubs and bag.

Thanks Archer, that was exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks all for the welcome. I initially joined this site to look for information for a school speech on concealed carry. I started lurking again after I realized that I sat in a class with this fine example of America's youth, and that his act happened about a block from my house. Glad I could help. What kind of muzzle loder do you have, I used to shoot a Lymans Great Plains Rifle, .54 cal. Accurate as could be as long as I was shooting a round ball.....wouldn't shoot a conical bullet with any accuracy. But that is normal for a rifle with a 1 in 60 twist.

Maybe a ski case? Not sure if there is such a thing, just a thought.

Archer - somewhat at a tangent to the main thrust of the thread .. I have two or three ML rifles but danged if I remember best twists for what.
What is best for a Minnie compared with ball? I shoot .577 minis from my 2 band Enfield Musketoon and it is accurate but no idea until I check again what twist I have - and of course barrel is on short side too.

Archer
I have a Armisport M1861 Springfield. Its my reenacting toy. I stripped the poly finish and stained the stock with linseed oil, removed all the modern markings, and had the serial number stamped on the bottom of the barrel. P95 Assuming it is one of the Euroarms reproductions, it is a 1 in 48" twist. |
