I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever noticed a slight magnetic pull on their magazines or if I somehow magnetized mine? I put a new magazine in my coat pocket earlier today, and when I got back to the hotel, it had paperclips (that I forgot were in my pocket) attached to it. Was pretty weird, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. =D

I have never had this happen, but there was a thread a while back about a magnetized magazine causing an AD.

Have you made sure it's actually magnetized and it wasn't something else such as a static charge or some glue residue holding the paperclips to the magazine?

If it really is magnetized, you have a bit of an issue.

The only do-it-yourself way I know of to demagnetize metal is to get it *really* hot (read: blowtorch). From my understanding, heating the metal past it's Curie point will re-align enough of the molecules in a random order that the magnetic field will collapse.

Lots of places have demagnetizer machines - they're essentially alternating current electromagnets that remove the magnetic field. You could try to find someone that has one locally.

You could try to figure out which polarity your magazines have, and then stroke them for awhile with a same-polarity magnet... That might just make it worse, though. I really don't know. Anyone here remember college physics?

Another question is... Is the magnetism really hurting anything anyway?

You can usually de-magnetize a metal object by striking it or dropping it having a heavy impact on a surface. To see just how magnetized your magazine is---place it real close to your computer screen--if there is distortion, then it's really magnetized. How to totally avoid a magnetized magazine? Stainless steel.
Your situation could also be static electricity. Wipe your magazine with a Bounce (clothes dryer) sheet.

Sliding a steel magazine in and out of a steel frame magazine well sure could slightly magnetize it.

Since the direction that it got magnetized in was lengthwise...you could try sliding a magnet across the width a few times and see if that negates it.

I have no idea if that will work but, what is there to lose?

Excellent advice so far. I remember hearing somewhere that striking something with a hammer can sometimes demagnetize it. I don't think this little Kahr magazine can take that though, haha. I'm surprised that magazine isn't already stainless steel. Guess I'll have to pick up some dryer sheets on the way back from work, thanks again everyone!

I wouldn't heat my mags up because they are extruded and could warp.
