This is Maggie. We just adopted her as we can't find her family. My wife picked her up and she has been at home with us ever since! She's a sweetheart but her bark keeps people away from the door!

This is Jake. His history is one of abuse. He's had a broken tail, there's a bullet in his back and he showed the behavior of a beaten dog when we got him. We also found out out he was kept locked in a travel kennel for 8 to 10 hours a day for most of his 6 years. Well, three years later he is a well socialized dog who does very well around people. He has already shown that he doesn't tolerate threatening behavior towards his new "pack" where he is treated so well!

Isn't it amazing how good a dog you get when you take an abused animal and give them a second chance?

I like mixed breed, my favorite is a 1/2 Black Lab, and 1/2 German Sheppard. This one is a Rescue dog. She was abused by a male who wore a baseball cap. She does not like it if I put my cap on and have something in my hand. She is about 1 1/2 year old, weighs about 65lbs, and her name is Daisy. I live 1,100 ft off the road, and if anybody comes down the drive, she sure lets us know. Best alarm system out there is a good dog........

The one I had before her was a 126 pound 1/2 Black Lab and 1/2 Doberman. NEVER AGAIN.

His name was Samson. We called him Devil Dog..... He did not like people except close family that lived in the house. We were sued by the FedEx lady, after my wife telling her not to get out of the truck, till he was put up. After that homeowners would not cover him.

He died in my arms at 14.

Awesome pics and posts.

I've never met a dog I didn't like....the owner's are a different matter.

Best dogs I've had as companions are:

1. Doberman (Spike)
2. Australian Shepherd (Lucy)

Very smart and very protective. I never had to worry about coming home after dark.

I currently have 2 jack russell terriers. The only thing worse than a jack russell is TWO jack russells. They run my a$$ off.

I had a JRT up until this fall. He died in an accident just after his first birthday. Great dogs, but not for everyone.

Sorry for your loss, Sixto. That's very young.

The highlight of my dog's day is going for a run. And I mean a full-speed sprint with abrupt stops. They have to check every storm drain. If I'm not paying attention, I'd crash and burn.

So we zig-zag down the street from storm drain to storm drain. It looks retarded.

We have to stay with the street because Ruffus got us kicked out of the dog park - TWICE. Very embarrassing.

Sorry for the long story, but please indulge me. This is our 10 month old German Shepherd, Fritz. He'a rescue that some meth-head (assumed) out in East Texas threw in a lake with his littermates when they were 10 weeks old in an attempt to kill them. A good samaritan was able to save 3 of them, brought them to Dallas, and posted pics and a plea for help on her blog. Fortune smiled! We had just put our Australian Shepherd, Oscar, down after 13 years with the family, and Fritz was a blessing. We were waiting for the last day of school so my wife (teacher) and kids could be home with him for housetraining, etc. It just so happened that the blog posting was the Monday of the last week of school, and I picked him up at the vet on the last day of school. Worm and flea infested at 10 weeks old, it was a tough go at first, but definitely worth it.

Fritz is extremely vigilant, is great with the kids and their friends, and has been a true blessing. Shepherds like my Aussie and now Fritz are tremendous watch and guard dogs once the family becomes their flock. With either, nobody gets within 50 yards of the house, night or day, without him being alerted.

Cheers!

The little guy on the right, at 6 weeks, is getting bigger, almost five months old. His dad was a Great Dane, and his mom a Bloodhound. The mom is not a bad watchdog herself; being a stray for a while, she learned to be very alert and observant. We did not breed her; the family that took her in first had a male Great Dane. The little guy is already quite the watchdog.

Edited to add: Well, forget the picture. It seems I can't grasp the arcane pic-posting art here, either.

Don't know his parents. I got him from a shelter, must have been abused by the guy in the family though. The shelter actually was shut down for not caring for the animals. They got real mangy and skinny according to the authorities.

He had a wife and kids when I got him. He was very nurturing to his family, moreso than the mother I was told. But he just let all other dogs take his toys and stuff. But now he won't even let them in his sight! Glad he got a good home. It's sad, but he's better now. I feel for the others though.

Our Latest Addition

Joining our GSD and Dobie, "Tekka" (the terror) was a rescue pup at 14 weeks. Part Border Collie, part GSD, she appears to be starting out well. Learning a large vocabulary is not going to be a big deal for Tekka, but we hope to live throu the puppy terror stage.

She and the GSD are great buddies and partners in crime already, but the Dobie is more reserved at this time. She'll be a positive addition to the pack as the Dobie and GSD age.

my baby

Here he is in all his glory guarding the car...I got this dog when he was small enough to fit into my backpack and be carried around... now when we go hiking he carries his own pack!

He is my guardian, my loyal companion and my best friend :)
