Really? Can you explain why it's a waste of money? I'm specifically interested in how much professional instruction you've had using lights and lasers on a weapon intended for combat. In particular, how much force on force training have you done using those items prior to dismissing them as "a waste of money?"

As for batteries, again this comes across as if you don't have a lot of experience. Most modern weapon mounted lights use step-down technology so it's very clear when you're losing battery power (and you still have many minutes of useful light at that point). And what's the alternative, shooting blindly in the dark? For the laser, at least the ones I'm most familiar with (Crimson Trace), they also grow dim before dying ... so if yours start to dim during practice, replace them.

I have used the Lasermax and liked it. A laser holds an intimidation factor. Just something about seeing a red dot on your chest, makes one think twice about his future course of action.

The lasermax is fairly accurate +-2" at 25 feet, plus if nothing else, makes a great dry firing aide.

The laser isn't for everyone, but will come in handy in different situations.

Hell ya! I put the CT LG405 on my S&W 642. If I ever need to use it in a less than ideal situation, point the red dot and pull trigger. Rinse & repeat.

To be able to see a red dOt on what you are shooting at would be very helpful, IMO.

Ahhh she shoots the gun plenty. She gets about 200 rounds a month through the gun. We try to do some drills and stuff twice a month.

I do not have lasers or lights attached to any of my carry guns. Not saying I wouldn't put a laser on them, but it would be a LaseMax so it doesn't change the geometry of the gun and I would still be able to use all the holsters I have.

But, honestly, since I have had to draw for real twice this year (God I hope I don't ever have to do it again, and yes, this year has sucked so far) I can tell you, I have no doubt that the speed at which the SHTF would not have allowed me to activate a LaserMax. So I doubt I will bother with installing one any time soon.

I use laser grips in my guns.
The S&W Chief Special is my carry gun, and the Colt Gov't is my home defense gun.

I prefer to have a light in my off hand.

I have posted it before, but here it is to show why I prefer lasers over night sights.

I will NOT be without one.

I have a laser grip on my .45, it is my primary home defense gun, together with a Borealis 1050 lumens flashlight.

After the alarm sounded...
My tactic is to get to the bedroom door and from there control the passage way and the living room, with the body protected by the frame and with only my half face exposed, one hand holding the pistol and the other hand the Borealis flashlight.

With a laser is not need to line up your face with the pistol, no tunnel vision, no exposing body parts to get into a shooting position.
If you are going to have a gunfight, this is the best way!

This, for me is the most valuable feature of the laser.

The flashlight with the 1050 lumens (two millions candlepower) will cook the eyes of an intruder.

Very nice! great pictures.

I sell all this stuff so I probably should not say you I do not need it. It also depends on where you live etc.

I feel everyone who likes guns and ammo should equip themselves as they feel necessary.

Carry, collect and stay safe no matter how you do it.

Some thoughts:

o Be a supportive husband and get her what she wants. Your relationship will benefit.

o See if you can help her realize (perhaps through some role-playing / experimentation / practice, maybe with a cheap laser pointer as a prop) that the BG is not going to notice a red dot on his body, so the laser is highly unlikely to be an effective deterrent.

o Consider that if she's counting on the laser to scare a BG away, this might be a variation on the "I carry a gun for self defense but I'd never actually shoot anyone" mindset, which as I'm sure you know is a dangerous mindset. If this appears to be the case then you've got a more fundamental problem than whether it's meaningful to have a laser on your EDC.

o It appears that when the SHTF most people end up point shooting in the heat of the moment. For the first shot or two most people won't have the time or presence of mind either to do sighted shooting OR to follow-the-dot with laser-aimed fire. But for successive shots I think that laser-aimed fire can be very helpful to get the shots on target; particularly if you're moving, or end up at odd angles.
