How much do you want to spend? A good light is always appreciated. Another great gift is a nice pen style cuff key. Every cop needs one of those, and its often overlooked until you have been around the block a little bit.

+2 from SIXTO. The cuff key is an excellent gift.

Danner Blackhawk or Patrol boots....excellent investment. Maybe a little more than 150 but well worth it.

Nonsense. After a little while on the job, he'll get all kinds of advice as to guns, holsters, etc. What is this "enough guns" of which you speak?

15 years as a cop, I think I was STILL buying different holsters, trying to find ones that worked better. Eventually, I stopped carrying my Tupperware off duty, and toted my M1911A1. THAT has never been a problem.
